DS2 is supposed to dress up as a book character for World Book Day on Thursday. We have a great doctor's outfit but i can't think of a character for him to be. Are there any?
We also have a policeman's outfit and a fireman's but I can't think of any character for them either.
DS1 is going as Harry Potter so he's sorted.

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Scare 'em all

VintageGardenia · 03/03/2008 21:41

Sorry links going wonky they do work though

There is a d=1204580106&sr=1-6 Doctor Maisy - tenuous - and a qid=1204580165&sr=1-17 Doctor Judy Moody but not much point if LyraDS doesn't know them, I mean that's the fun really.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 03/03/2008 21:39

What about Dr. Dog (Babette Cole- I like the bit where he tells granpa off for eating beans and drinking beer, and he farts and blows the house up!!! ) Add some droopy ears and paint his face like a dog- voila!

VintageGardenia · 03/03/2008 21:39

Ooo Dickon I lurved him, a sort of gentler, more cerebral Mellors. In recent sequel (film) Mary has married Colin (boo). Oh dear can't stop laughing at own uselessness.

There is a [http://www.amazon.co.uk/Doctor-Maisy-Books-Lucy-Cousins/dp/0763616133/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=books&qi d=1204580106&sr=1-6 Doctor Maisy] - tenuous - and a [http://www.amazon.co.uk/Doctor-Judy-Moody-Megan-McDonald/dp/1406302163/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&s=books& qid=1204580165&sr=1-17 Doctor Judy Moody] but not much point if LyraDS doesn't know them, I mean that's the fun really.

Ummm. Don't want to be a pain. And obviously it is none of my business. So please feel free to tell me to p*ss off. But Dr Foster is not from a book. He is mentioned in a nursery rhyme but he is not a character from a book (unlike Dr Doolittle which would be easy if DS took a few stuffed animals with him).

Maidamess · 03/03/2008 21:34

Make him his own puddle, a piece of puddle shaped cardboard covered in tin foil. He can tuck it under his arm!

LyraSilvertongue · 03/03/2008 21:30

Sorry 100x i can't do that to DS2.
Dr Foster it is unless DP comes up with anything better.

Oh did you? I quite like him, especially his heavy curtains. It was the hearty rustic one that did for me.

Anyway, you have made me laugh a huge amount. I now want Lyra's ds2 to go as him.

LyraSilvertongue · 03/03/2008 21:27

DP thinks Dr Foster is a rubbish idea.
Yet he can't come up with anything better.

I loathed Colin.

ara · 03/03/2008 21:25

Dr Watson (was he a Doctor.........) - of Sherlock Holmes fame?

joyfulspike · 03/03/2008 21:23

Dr Livingstone I think was in Treasure Island?

FrannyandZooey · 03/03/2008 21:23

would a vet do?

LyraSilvertongue · 03/03/2008 21:22

I didn't read many children's classics when i was a kid. i was more interested in Beano and Whizzer and Chips.

artichokes · 03/03/2008 21:22

Ooops . That should have read "he can communicate with animals. He was created by Hugh Lofting..."

LyraSilvertongue · 03/03/2008 21:21

Most sincere apologies artichokes.
again.

artichokes · 03/03/2008 21:20

Doctor Dolittle is not a vet! He is a doctor who shuns human patients in favour of animals. He can communicate with Hugh Lofting who wrote about him in illustrated letters from the WW1 trenches.

ahundredtimes · 03/03/2008 21:20

LOL at the doctor who came to see Colin's legs in the Secret Garden.

'And who have you come as today Lyra's ds2? Tell everyone, nice loud voice'

bookwormmum · 03/03/2008 21:19

a few doctors here

LyraSilvertongue · 03/03/2008 21:19

Oh, I see. You learn something new every day.

100x, it's a white coat and stethoscope kind of outfit. perfect for Dr Foster. Umbrella is a great idea too.
Thanks gals.

Tsk. Lyra, he WAS a human doctor but he never made any money and his sister - who was his housekeeper and rather sour - despaired. And then he discovered this unique gift. . .

VintageGardenia · 03/03/2008 21:16

Hmm quite hard.

Dr Who? not exactly litratchur
the one in the Secret Garden who comes for Colin's legs
Dr Seuss...
errrmmm sorry keep thinking of Dr Spock

ahundredtimes · 03/03/2008 21:16

And take an umbrella.

Though I'm imagining this outfit is a little more in the paramedic style, than the frock coat variety? Is it? Or is white coat surgeon look?

Strangely, surgeons don't seem to feature in children's literature much.

LyraSilvertongue · 03/03/2008 21:16

My friend's doing Harry and the bucketful of dinosaurs. I told her she was lazy
Doctor Foster is a good idea. he has a good pair of wellies.
Isn't Dr Doolittle a vet? I always thought he was
