Hi my 6 year old DD is a very able reader however still likes pictures books. Doesn’t like chapter books. I wanted advice for what to get her to read . I would prefer longer picture books.
also need advice on how to move her on to chapter books.
she has read the hairy mclary, Julia Donaldson, dr Seuss,
May the moment she is enjoying a big box set of mr men and little miss books but I am wondering what next.
she has also recently got into dinosaurs and rejecting princess and kitten themes.

thanks.

The Shifty McGifty series also has some that are first chapter books and bridge the gap.

Do you read chapter books to her? We started with books where each chapter was it's own story (My Naughtly Little Sister, Milly Molly Mandy, Mrs Pepperpot etc) and then he gradually grew in his ability to hold attention for the longer stories. The shorter Roald Dahl are a great next step as mentioned above.

The colour illustrated versions of the Roald Dahl books are good for bridging the gap between picture books and chapter books. We started with fantastic mr fox. If she's a competent reader she will probably be fine with that.

There are also colour illustrated versions of the Harry Potter books if/when she's ready for them.

There are lots of first chapter books with illustrations on most, if not all, pages. Quite a few of these books have coloured illustrations.

Rabbit and Bear
Claude the dog
Hotel Flamingo
Ivy and Bean
Flying Fergus
The Dragonsitter
Mudpuddle Farm

Dd has just tried Indigo Wilde which is colour illustrated but heavy text. She enjoyed the story but needed help with reading momentum.
Before that she read Toto: The Dog-Gone Amazing Story of the Wizard of Oz by Michael Morpurgo which was superb.

Younger graphic novels (Hilda, Asterix)?
chapter books with a big graphic component (Winnie the Witch, xx storey treehouse)?
or audio books to read along with a simple chapter book?
