What is the most lovely book that anyone's read to give to a 3 year old?

The House in the Night is a very beautiful book for a toddler. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_House_in_the_Night

The Night Pirates is good, and actually readable!

Dd had the most beautiful Cinderella pop up book and treated it so roughly… I coujd have cried. I appreciated it much more than she did!

A poem a day book is a nice gift too

Another vote for we are here by Oliver Jeffers :-)

FATHER CHRISTMAS AND HIS ANIMAL CREW is a new release that seems to tick a lot of boxes The following Amazon review expresses it better than I can! " This is the sort of book that children will pull out year after year, and will remember fondly when they look back on their childhoods. It's the perfect formula - rhymes they'll remember, a refrain they'll join in with, animal noises to make them giggle and beautiful illustrations to discover. It's ideal for parents to read to toddlers (I've bought it for my two year old grand-daughter), and young children will love trying to read it for themselves, as they try and match the writing to the rhythms they've memorised. What a delight! "

@anormalperson

We are here by Oliver Jeffers is gorgeous
I was going to say Oliver Jeffers. how to catch a star is lovely.

Personally while I love the Jolly Postman, I think it's better with older children who have the physical dexterity to get the letters out

I love the snail and the whale. It's beautifully written, not too long to keep their attention and it's a lovely story.

My 3 year old currently loves 'the digger and the flower' by Joseph kuefler. It is beautiful.

The one that makes me well up is 'once there were giants' by martial Waddell.

Also The Jolly Postman by Alan Ahlberg

We loved The Little Penguin by Patrick Benson, about an adelie penguin and her friend William, the whale, and they are both 3 years old. DD was desperate to be 3!

Oliver Jeffers books are beautiful, but especially Here We Are which is dedicated to his first born child. It's my go to new baby gift now, but I think it works just as well reading it to toddlers.

Lost and found by Oliver jeffers

It makes me cry as reminds me of my lost little one, but I also love it as it’s just so lovely and the illustrations really touch my heart there’s something about them I can’t explain it but I love them ❤️

The Lost Words by Robert Macfarlane is a stunningly beautiful book - maybe a bit much for a toddler, but a gorgeous present for future years.

AnneLovesGilbert · 06/11/2021 22:28

Great thread, thank you OP. Adding stuff to my toddler’s wish list.

Our favourites are Peepo and a pop up book about London.

Gorilla by Anthony Browne - the illustrations are amazing and we have it in giant form, the book is 3 times the size of a normal book.

jazzandh · 06/11/2021 22:07

The Bedtime Collection by Wendy Cooling. My boys loved this book as there was something for everyone! A book to keep and pass on.

Ugly6 · 06/11/2021 22:01

I am LOVING this list. Many of these books are available to see being read on YouTube and I can't get enough of listening to them. Spoilt for choice! Thanks!
