my 9 year old only likes books that feature animals + adventures. So she loved Podkin One-year and all the Narnia books. What else is there of that type?

Forgot to mention Pax.

DrMaryMalone · 22/04/2020 06:56

Second the Silver Brumby books and the Deptford Mice trilogy.

Bubbletrouble43 · 22/04/2020 06:51

Echoing pp the redwall series were really good for my dd.

ChangingStates · 22/04/2020 06:40

Another one whose 9 year old is obsessed with Warrior Cats- seems to be loads of them- 6 series I think.

AiryFairy1 · 22/04/2020 06:36

The incredible journey, Sheila Burnford
There’s a James Herriot Treasury of animal stories with beautiful illustrations.
Dog man 😅

LangClegTheBeardedVulture · 22/04/2020 06:25

Redwall
The Animals Of Farthing Wood
the Fox Busters
Charlotte’s Web
The Deptford Mice books by Robin Jarvis
Mrs Frisby and the Rats Of NIMH

Missymoo99 · 22/04/2020 06:22

Second the suggestion of the Megan Rix ones, my son is loving them at the moment.

MairzyDoats · 21/04/2020 22:01

The Animals of Farthing Wood is a brilliant book, if she hasn't already read it then she definitely should.

Mesmeri · 21/04/2020 20:03

The James Herriot books! My absolute favourites at that age.

Flymetothetoon · 21/04/2020 19:52

The Silver Brumby books by Elyne Mitchell

Bambi and Bambis' Children

Ring of Bright Water

Phillpot12 · 21/04/2020 19:31

Mr Penguin - quite easy but fun. Toto the Ninja Cat. Both very light reading but my 9yr old daughter enjoyed them.

WashYourFins · 21/04/2020 19:25

Seconding all the others who have said the Warrior Cats series by Erin Hunter. DD adores them.

PumpkinsMum18 · 21/04/2020 19:15

Books by David Clement-Davies

Bienentrinkwasser · 21/04/2020 19:12

@buildalegohouse I used to secretly love them! I knew they were below my reading level and a bit twee even at 9/10 so pretended to my friends I hated them 😂

Buildalegohouse · 21/04/2020 19:08

The Animal Ark series? I remember loving them but might have been a bit younger than 9.

Lefkosia · 21/04/2020 19:02

Oh and the sheep pig by Dick King Smith. He wrote more books about animals so worth looking them up. She might also enjoy James Herriot's books

Lefkosia · 21/04/2020 18:57

Animorphs as well, then she can watch the terrible old TV show

Lefkosia · 21/04/2020 18:56

I, Houdini - used to love that as a kid, it's written from the point of view of a hamster.

Medianoche · 21/04/2020 18:53

No idea why it autocorrected Web.

Medianoche · 21/04/2020 18:52

Ricekrispie22’s list is very good. I’d add Wolf Wilder. Charlotte’s Webb? I’ll probably think of some more later.
The Alex Sparrow books by Jennifer Killick might also suit if she’d enjoy kids plus animals plus adventures, with a healthy dose of silly humour.

SistemaAddict · 21/04/2020 18:43

Warriors gets another vote here. I can't get dd to put them down. She's read all day every day but sometimes she has to do things like eat and shower.

MaidenMotherCrone · 21/04/2020 18:07

@ArtichokeAardvark my son loved the Redwall series. He has them all and are still on his bookshelf and he's 21 Grin.

Along the same lines is the Warrior series by Erin Hunter. All cats no humans!

QueenOfToast · 21/04/2020 17:58

The Animals of Farthing Wood is brilliant.
Other faves:-
Charlotte's Web
Gobolino the Witch's Cat
101 Dalmations
Danny the Champion of the World

DjMomo · 21/04/2020 17:45

Jack London books.

ArtichokeAardvark · 21/04/2020 17:45

The Redwall series by Brian Jacques? Animals off on adventures, no humans at all.
