Does anyone own Rebecca's World by Terry Nation?

Long shot -
I have an old copy of this book from my childhood & was thinking about reading it to my two sons. I've just found though that it's missing the first 8 pages! (Most of chapter 1). Is there anyone who can help - give me an overview of what happens at the beginning? It's out of print otherwise I'd buy a new copy, but there does seem to be a CD out there so someone might be able to tell me what happens before Rebecca falls into the telescope?

thanks!

I loved this...our teacher read it to us when I was 7...I recently bought the CD for my9 year old daughter..she loved it too

I'd never heard of this book till my mother in law bought it for 50p from a book fair a few years ago for my daughter (Rebecca). We read it and I think I enjoyed it more than she did actually, bit too young to understand it. On flipping through the book one night, I realised that not only was it in excellent condition for its age, it's a first edition signed by Terry Nation!!!! Cannot believe it was missed by the bookseller! A couple of similar ones were being sold on Amazon a couple of years ago for about £500.00!!! eek - rush to put it in a padded envelope!

Just reporting back that I just read Rebecca's World to DD (nearly 7). She absolutely loved it and cant stop talking about it. Best book ever, she says Grin. Makes me very happy that we shared it..

BaconAndAvocado · 30/07/2013 22:17

Yes I do! DH bought a copy for me as I loved it so much as a child.

It is very very special to me.

He got it from ebay for £25.

SconeInSixtySeconds · 29/07/2013 20:22

I own a copy as I taught it as a text to my first ever class as a teacher in the year 2000. It is a great book, so funny and exciting. I loved reading it to them. :)

Gosh, v excited to see this thread again with a connection to the author!

Loved this book and am just biding my time till I introduce it to DD. I've made the mistake of introducing some of my favourites to her too soon (she's only 6 and didn't enjoy the first chapter of the Little Princess or the Animal Family so we have given up on those for now). She will love Rebecca's World when the time is right.

Many thanks to all of you for posting your marvelous comments about the book! It's deeply touching to hear how many of you have enjoyed and loved the book over the years as I have. My father would have been be delighted to hear all your wonderful memories about it.

Should any of you have unanswered questions about Rebecca's World, please feel free to respond to me here, or at [email protected]

I will endeavor to respond to as many inquiries as possible.

Respectfully,

Rebecca

The one with the Larry Learmonth illustrations is the one to look out for I think.

JinnyClaypole · 16/07/2012 23:38

Oh I have a charity shop copy of this, thought I'd get rid of it is it wasn't as creepy as I remember it being (it really weirded me out as a child). Off to find it and ebay it tomorrow...

IamtheSnorkMaiden · 16/07/2012 23:17

I've been after a copy of this for years but it's too flippin' expensive.

We had it read to our class at school in the 80s and it's stayed with me. Great book.

AbigailAdams · 14/07/2012 21:05

This was one of my favourite books too. Thanks for reminding me.

peggyblackett · 14/07/2012 21:01

I had a copy, which was kept at my nan's. I loved it. Unfortunately it has gone walkabout to her local charity shop I suspect. I will treat myself to a copy when I return to work.

MajorMajor · 14/07/2012 20:57

I'm happy if I've reminded people of this brilliant book....enjoy

Wow can I just say, a huge thank you all for this thread, for years I have had a strong memory of a book I borrowed from the library when I was a girl. All I could remember was a girl called Rebecca and something about trees in a weird land. Nobody has ever known what I was on about until now!

Such a shame its out of print, I will have to get hold of it somehow :)
