Hi everyone

I'm a tad confused. Got the day off today and came back to an answerphone message from a lady at Ofsted. Spoke to her and she said she made an unannounced visit to me this afternoon but I was out and now she wanted to arrange to see me. She's coming on Friday at 2pm.

What on earth could this be about??? Does it automatically mean I've been reported for something? I know I've not gone over my numbers at all so if someone THINKS I have then that's ok but I just can't think what else it could be? I know I shouldn't be worried as I've not done anything wrong but I'm upset about not knowing and thinking someone must have reported me for something and therefore I'm wondering who would do this

Any thoughts people?

Just checking in, with my support. Hope it goes well. x

Cheers PC. As for paperwork, I know where it all is luckily although when I asked if I needed to get anything out ready for her, she said no, she just wanted a 'chat'.

Will let you know later xx

looney sorry for belated support - please let us know how it goes on friday x

looneytune · 29/07/2009 13:00

mumlove - thanks hun x

Bradfordmum - no, never reported anyone. Plus I doubt they'd do an unannounced visit unless it's something I'm supposed to have done Will try and stay strong x

SammyK - all I know is that she turned up yesterday and I wasn't in so she called so she could make sure I was in next time. She wanted to come asap by the sounds of it but was booked up Wed/Thurs hence saying Friday. It's at 2pm as she's already booked for the morning x

atwork - I did wonder if it was to do with the inspection as it was the last one that lady did and then she left Ofsted. But they wouldn't drop in unannounced for that so I can only think it's a complaint of some sort. I really really don't think any of my parents would do that though. I've told 2 of them about it today and will tell the others tomorrow. So far I've just had shocked reactions and them trying to reassure me. I WAS confident that I've done nothing etc. but it's a weird feeling to be left waiting and in the meantime I'm wondering if I'm a crap cm afterall. Think I just didn't get enough sleep last night!! x

Anyway, thanks again for the support, it really helps to be able to talk about it rather than it fester away inside Thanks x

Hi looney

Sorry your'e down, an unannounced visit can mean a couple of different things, usually a complaint, but don't be downhearted if it is you are confident that you are doing a good job and know that you havn't broken your registration, get all you paperwork and registers to hand ready for the inspector to look at just in case it is a complaint, and yes if you were out when they visited unnanounced they would call to arrange a time, time constraints are usually quick when its a protection issue think its 48hrs, so you can at least cancell that one out run of the mill complaints are I think up to 28dys but could be wrong, although they are dealt with as quickly as possible.

On a brighter note if you had your inspection in march it could just be possible that they forgot to do something (this happened to a friend not long ago and they phoned all coy and asked to pop out, they didn't say what for then either) if thats the case then thats their fault and no reflection on you.

And if their has been a complaint you know in your heart of hearts that its unfounded, therefore the inspector will ask you details of that day / time of the allegation and verify what you say with your records, they will find no grounds and the complaint won't even appear on your record, it won't make you feel any better about things and you will be looking over your shoulder now wondering who said what and why, it's not nice, I won't tell you not to worry cos you will, but I will tell you to be confident and beleive in yourself the inspector will see by your reaction what they need to know, and thats why they don't tell you what its about. Will be thinking of you on Friday, all the best, and MN hugs.

Actually think Shoshe is right, or they have decided to give you an extra special outstanding CM award in light of reviewing your recent inspection report.

SammyK · 29/07/2009 10:26

Just seen this how awful to keep you hanging like that!

I know it's easy to say but do try not to worry. Why Friday?? Did you ask her if she could come back any earlier? Seems daft to leave it so long. If it were something super serious I doubt they would do that, agree with bradfordmum on that one.

Chin up you do a great job.

BradfordMum · 29/07/2009 09:19

I just wondered, have you had the need to report anyone lately? Maybe they need to discuss that matter?

If not, I'm at a loss as to what it could be, but if it was anything serious, I doubt they'd leave it til Friday.

Keep strong.

mumlove · 29/07/2009 09:11

I have just read this on fb and I am so .

It's not fair that they leave you thinking about what they want as you know that you are wonderful. Will hold your hand all week and have a beer with you .

Take care and please try to enjoy the next few days.

looneytune · 29/07/2009 08:04

Thanks everyone for your support. It's weird, I know I've done nothing wrong yet last night was thinking all sorts and starting doubting myself as a childminder thinking maybe I have done something wrong, maybe I'm not a good childminder anymore etc ....

I've become totally paranoid, crazy isn't it. Oh how I wish I was in yesterday when she arrived, I HATE waiting!!! Inspections are bad enough yet you know what happening with them. This is totally different, it's hard to explain why I feel sick when I haven't done anything but.....!!!

Once kiddies have arrived I will just get on with it and hopefully the time will go by quickly.

enjoy your beer x

TheIronLady · 28/07/2009 22:11

How awful for you Looneytune, try not to worry too much. Hopefully there will be a simple explanation. Good luck for Friday, I am sure we will all be thinking of you

Ripeberry · 28/07/2009 21:32

Good luck for Friday. I'm sure it will be OK

looneytune · 28/07/2009 20:58

Don't you worry, I'll be saying how stressful it is to be left dangling like that!! Will try my best to forget about it until Friday.

OP posts:
squirrel42 · 28/07/2009 20:50

If it was anything properly serious/urgent they wouldn't leave it until Friday! Does sound a bit weird to arrange a time to come out and then not explain what it's all about though. If it does turn out to be something boringly mundane I'd be asking why on earth they couldn't have just said that beforehand and save all the stress!

looneytune · 28/07/2009 19:47

Thanks Shoshe

shoshe · 28/07/2009 19:17

They want to award you CM of the year award, doncha know with a secret camera so it looks all good that it wasn't rehearsed for GMTV.

looneytune · 28/07/2009 18:57

Thanks everyone, I'll try and calm down. Just wish it was tomorrow and not Friday I had to wait until!!

HSMM - thanks for the offer. I may well do that. Are you around tomorrow or Thurs? Maybe we could get together?
