inspected today - outstanding in 10 areas but only graded 'good' overall because was advised by cm coordinator only last wk that didnt have to do obs/assessments on child 5yrs6mths who i care for 4hrs a wk - yes,i have posted on this previously but you 'trust' your coordinator to know -and even last week i was reassured it wasnt needed. but guess what - you do. am really angry because i have obs/assessments in place for other children in the setting - even though written obs are apparently not a legal requirement, only a recommendation - and even if i'd been told yesterday i would have had time to put file together for the child as i have enough info in my own diary to be able to 'recall and reflect'. inspector commented i went above and beyond in most areas but that this would have to be reflected in my overall grading.

the parent whose child is at the 'centre' of this is gutted - in her words, 'for the sake of 4hrs, you've been downgraded', and she can't understand the logic any more than i can. i've only been caring for the child for a couple of months anyway so over 4hrs a wk havn't really had time to establish his 'baseline' yet anyway.

please, please don't misunderstand me and flame me on here - i know that to get 'good' is brilliant, but i just feel a little 'cheated' tonight - i trusted the advice i was given to then be told that advice has meant i don't meet the legal requirements of eyfs.

katymac, need your support, know your inspection was difficult. am intending to appeal but is it worth it . advice ladies............

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I don't do obs on school children at all! Shall I just put their files away when Ofsted come and pretend they never come here! No .... probably not. Best get my diaries out then

Numberfour · 01/04/2009 06:01

i have not read all the reponses, but it is bloody ridiculous. I would use stronger language were it not a CM post.....

appeal! i would - if i had the will to live after what you have been through.

for you......

you def deserve better.

underpaidandoverworked · 31/03/2009 22:50

parent in question has said she will provide any help she can to help me in appeal - she herself is quite happy for child at end of day to 'chill' and watch tv, as he has had his structured learning at school - maximum 20 mins after tea, if that

must go to bed soon and switch off........

write to ofsted stating she is way beyond eyfs and as you don't have to use a further curriculum you have not got file on her knock up a signed letter from her parents stating this was agreed etc and a date you would have discussed it it can't hurt to try is it 4 hours on one day you have her?

underpaidandoverworked · 31/03/2009 22:45

child will be 6 in october, already does everything should at '60 months' as stated in eyfs practice guidelines. just feel really 'sore' that have busted a gut over last 18 mths to get things in place - why do we bother am really tempted to have a bloody big bonfire in middle of field opposite my house tomorrow - within permitted hours according to council regulations of course - and give the whole lot up.

i just hope that when they review eyfs in 2010 - as is planned - they look at us as 'sole traders' who don't get paid for all the 'extras' we have to provide now i have just totted up my earnings for the last 12 months and i am nowhere near the personal allownace for paying tax, and that's before expenses . even inspector today admitted people don't appreciate us as a childcare 'professional' the way they should. my parents are amazed at what i have to fill in and the files i have . infact inspector today said 'i'm only here for a few hours ' when i presented her with all of the files we are now 'required' to have

anger not subsiding yet............

this is awful how far off the time you don't need to do obs is she? can you ring and explain situation? I believe they can't give you outstanding now because ofsted fault find and they use any fault to become a point to improve on for next time. I had same type of thing last year as inspector did not like one of the ncma child record forms everybody else i know uses same one and nobody was pulled up for them

underpaidandoverworked · 31/03/2009 22:26

know from 'a source' about another local cm who got 7 goods and 7 outstandings - but got outstanding overall, good for her but how does that work

dh doesnt know what to say tonight - he hardly seen me last few months weeks, he being really good, bless his little cotton socks.

don't get me wrong, inspector overall was really good - can't fault her on rest of inspection, but she was obviously in uncharted territory today, given she asked me if i was sure about childs dob,. hey ho - if it's going to happen to anyone it's going to happen to me - i should be used to it by now wine therapy starting to kick in - almost at point where don't care any more till tomorrow

I agree, this is all crazy!!! I have a sibling of mindee starting after easter and guess what, her birthday IS 31st August so I'll be doing obs til her 6th birthday!!! I'm so fed up about this, why can't they just let it be that school takes over once they are at school full time??!!!

So sorry that what should be a very happy for doing so well type occasion, you're upset (rightly so) due to being given the wrong info! I'd also have something to say about the network co-ordinator giving you wrong info, that's not on!!

LesbianMummy1 · 31/03/2009 22:18

when is child's birthday?

MaureenMLove · 31/03/2009 22:11

That's ridiculous! When are OFsted officers actually going to start working from the same list of requirements!! I bet, if you had had a different officer, she would've given you Outstanding!

I would definately appeal against their grading. Get the parent of said child to comment if necessary, but at least make a fuss about this.

It's bloody ridiculous!

KatyMac · 31/03/2009 21:51

I don't know what to say tbh

Speechless

SillyMillysMummy · 31/03/2009 21:50

oh god that sounds soooooooo unfair, i would definately appeal

mumlove · 31/03/2009 21:50
