Morning everyone

Just have DD to sort out and get to school this morning before mindee arrives as this is my short and quiet day and I enjoy that.

Only cheerios and mini choc weetabix for breakfast this morning as I don't have all the other fancy stuff that you all have.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MaureenMLove · 11/04/2008 18:40

Jeez, my typing is lousing tonight! Can you actually make sense of that!

MaureenMLove · 11/04/2008 18:39

How are you chick? Hows that bump coming along? I really miss coming being part of the conversation already. I know so much about you lot, I can't stop lurking, but I don't have anything constructive to say anymore! Nothing CM related anyway.

Although, I cold share with you that I got a really not very nice, but expensive pressie for one of my parents! It was a glass something, I won't say exactly, just in case...! I asked DH, what I should do with it and he said put it on E-bay!

looneytune · 11/04/2008 18:26

Nick, broke my heart when I decided to give notice to the 2 sisters I used to look after, I was especially attached to the younger sister who I first looked after at 5 weeks old! I do see them on the very odd occasion i.e at one of the groups if their new cm attends, they also came to ds's birthday party at the weekend but it's not the same. BUT....it WAS the right decision, I couldn't carry on and that was that!

MaureenMLove · 11/04/2008 18:14

Thing is, when its you that's rocking the boat, so to speak, you will think, 'is it easier to just stick with what I know.' When the decision is not yours i.e. the family make the decision, you just get on with it.

vInTaGeVioLeT · 11/04/2008 17:45

sorry to hear your feeling down nick but you know what's right for you right now.
will you be looking for a new family then?

MaureenMLove · 11/04/2008 17:41

Nick, that feeling is very fresh in my mind right now. I had to let down 5 families and it wasn't easy! I was really upset about my plaster baby. All I kept thinking about was, how they'd cope finding someone else and how baby would have to settle again, since she took quite a while to settle with me. TBH, I nearly turned the job down, just on the strength of my feeling for this particular baby. It was DH that made me realise that it really is all about 'you' in the end. You can't go on forever, doing it for the sake of not upsetting the family. You have to put yourself first. I'm sure whatever your decision was, you made the right choice.

chickenmama · 11/04/2008 16:48

Thought I'd pop in and say hi

I'm also very glad it's Friday! I've had the busiest 2 weeks ever - 3 boys aged 4 and 5 (plus my own dd who's almost 2) full time for the Easter hols. We had a great time and they really enjoyed themselves but, wow, I'm knackered!!

nannynick · 11/04/2008 16:41

It is good to hear that I am not alone in becoming very attached to children I care for. It has been a hard week, I had to make a hard decision. Having made the decision, I'm feeling very down... keep thinking if it was the right choice, the right time. It's easier when a family decides they don't need you any more... than when you decide that it's best to move on.

ROSEgarden · 11/04/2008 15:15

yeah i also believe she KNEW he was already ill, you dont give neuorfen if theyre 'just not right'..its very strong adn TBH my dd cant take it is makes her immediatly sick!
I CANT BELEIVE why some parents just want to drop them off and run, her ds has been unwell for 2 days inc today..he was not right yesterday when we came home early..por little thing, he was just dropping and doc hasnt even give anti b, just told her calpol and plenty of fluids!

vInTaGeVioLeT · 11/04/2008 15:06

rose so glad everythings ok now - i think the mum knew he was ill or she wouldn't have given him nurofen - naughty.

nick yes i do get very attached to some mindees and others i don't bond with , when my 1st mindee was leaving(4 weeks notice) i was very depressed and there were tears(i really don't do crying normally) but we're still very friendly in fact the family is coming over in a minute to visit
with the children i don't bond with i feel guilty and feel i shouldn't be minding them really but i'm fair and affectionate and loving to them i just don't feel it

oh hi everyone!!!

MaureenMLove · 11/04/2008 14:52

I had one that chewed a red crayon once and he swallowed a bit, before I could fish it all out of his month. He was only 2, I think. I told his mum and we had a laugh about it, then the following day she called me to ask what crayons they were, because he had been really ill in the night and the doctor wanted to know! I was horrified! I paniced, worried, paced, etc. Phoned or txt every couple of hours, then she called me to say the rest of the family also now had sickness, so I wasn't to worry!

ROSEgarden · 11/04/2008 14:43

thanks girls, i know i was flapping over nothing but you know when you think oh god he was all wobbly/floppy..is it something ive done!

mumlove · 11/04/2008 14:37

I have just finished for the weekend and have tidied the toys away, now have to remember to collect DD as she doesn't have dance after school today.

Rose - glad nothing bad is wrong with mindee.

MaureenMLove · 11/04/2008 14:33

Glad your mindee is OK Rose.

MaureenMLove · 11/04/2008 14:31

I get very attahed, but not too attached, iyswim. Its a weird thing actually. I seemed to know when it was my turn to be the mother figure and when not. I absolutely adored one of mine, more so than others. She just really made an impression on my and my families life. Could't stop kissing her everytime she was with me, hugged her really tight the last few weeks etc. But when I went to her house for her birthday, I didn't do any of those things. I'm not explaining myself very well! I think what I mean is, that my mindees, were, at the end of the day, my job, so I loved them to peices, but knew they were only ever on loan and always had that in the back of my mind.

ROSEgarden · 11/04/2008 14:30

glad thats not jsut me then!..my very first mindee i had no bond with..when she left...i sobbed my heart out!!!????

KatyMac · 11/04/2008 14:26

Vary attached to the point of resenting it when they leave me

But I keep it under raps and try and behave

To look after a child long term or frequently you do form a bond tho' there have been a few I did not bond with - I find them the saddest of all because I don't understand why I don't bond

ROSEgarden · 11/04/2008 14:16

LOL Nick was your last Q for me

Any-hoo..the mum has just text me, mindee has infection in his glands(does this not mean tonsilitus??), hes resting now and the medised i gave him when mum came has brought down his temppoor thing..plenty of fluids and rest said doc!

alibubbles · 11/04/2008 14:15

nannynick, yes, I do become attached to some of my minded children, very much so, so much that it hurts when I 'lose' them - but that is invariably when they have left because the parent and I have not seen eye to eye about something.

Others that move on, I keep in touch with, and still have a special bond with a 14 year old boy that I had from 12 weeks until he was 7.6 years old

I vowed 7 years ago not to get too attached to the children I look after, but then thought, if I feel that way, I shouldn't be doing this job.

Some you get more fond of than others, those that you have had from tiny and full time, and for many years as they become part of my family and my DH is very fond of one or two in particular as they remind us so much of when our DD was little.

Some you just can't love, but it doesn't stop you being affectionate with them as all children need love and cuddles.

nannynick · 11/04/2008 13:55

Question for you all... do you get too attached to the children you care for? And how do you know when you have become too attached?

nannynick · 11/04/2008 13:54

Rose, don't worry about things so much. Going on roundabouts is perfectly normal, and being dissy afterwards is often a reason why children like it.
You say "extra spacey" so that means that previously he has been "spacey", so something could have been affecting his brain for many months, if not years.
At this stage you just don't know... with luck his mum will have taken him to the GP and the GP will have checked him over and if necessary referred to a specialist.

ROSEgarden · 11/04/2008 12:16

put this in the wrong staffroom.please help!

PANIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My 3yr old mindee !
YEsterday whilst out at park/safe/library etc he was very 'dreamy' but he is kind of like this anyway, so i noted it but not tok too much notice..when walking out of park he went to walk off with another family and when i shouted him over he just changed direction ..as if he didnt really click?..anyway, again, he is dreamy, so didnt think too much of it..we went on all the stuff at park, all fine, running around..when on roundabout mindee and dd shouting faster, but then mindee said he was dizzy, so i got him off, sat him on the bench near us and dd stayed on..minute or two later he was running around as norm again..told mum when she collected last night said he was 'extra' spacy/dreamy today, to just keep an eye..they arrive this morn, mum says her ds still not 'himself' but no symtoms..i ask if hes been sick or bad stomache, no nothing..BUT ..she has given him neorofen(why if there are no symotoms, this is for fever/illness etc?)
so mindee sits quietly playing with dd and other m mindee, at 10.30 we get ready to go out..all dressed by 10.45, i go to get coat on and dd shouts xx is being sick..mindee throwing up all over!..clean him up, same again..calm him down, take temp 40 degrees!, strip him off to t-shirt and trousers, put wet flannel on his head give him sips of cold water..ring mum and ring nhs direct, they are concerned, tkae him to gp immediatly if he becomes even more unresponsive(he is literally dropping to sleep and floppy at this point!) she has to cll ambulance!!!
mum keeps asking ME what to do!..so i say take to docs NOW, dont ring just turn up and get him seen..so off they go.

problem is, they keep asking him hes had head njury last few days and i know he hasnt with me, but am worried when he said he was dizzy on roundabout that he might have hurt his neck???..he didnt say he had he was literally just dizzy like anyone would be getting off a roundabout(dd was same when she eventually got off)..but just want to rule out he couldnt have suffered a 'head injury' by going on this???

mum is texting me once her ds is seen..fngers crossed hes ok, poor little mite, he was just floppy and wimpering

shoshe · 11/04/2008 11:07
