Applying for new 15 hours free childcare

Hi
Anyone trying to or already applied for the new 15 hours free childcare for 2 year olds for working parents?
We currently get tax free childcare but are now eligible for 15 hours free from April but haven't got a clue how to apply. The gov website just keeps sending me round in circles and don't know how to apply for it

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
punjama · 07/01/2024 17:27

Why do I plan to? You think I don't want to earn the money? You think I want to send my kid away for 15 hours and do what? Nothing and earn nothing? You think I don't want to scale this up to help earn money to eventually be able to send them to private school?

And I said like not photography, simply something that doesn't require ongoing investment like reselling stock or drop shopping etc . It is perfectly viable since it's an actual job people do (surprisingly just like influencer and social media manager is). You seem to have gotten wrong impression. Probably because of the crowd you surround yourself with.

BiscuitsandPuffin · 07/01/2024 17:25

Also thanks OP and PPs for clarifying how to actually sort out the childcare for April, I'll wait until we reconfirm the tax-free childcare.

yep. look if that can be done then why not. i do this as a hobby and it has some interest from my social circle. how would i possible know if it will take off. if im only able to generate 5k then would you prefer i stopped altogether in 2nd year? seems like resetting the clock would be better idea if possible. by then 2nd child is older even more and those 15 hours - 30 hours can be used even more productively / properly to get it going.

honestly, if we werent funding things like war abroad and wasting money through corruption etc then we wouldnt even need to discuss this as it would be provided to everyone.

Edited

Why not? How about because it's taking food out of the mouths of other people while you friff around pretending to be a Boss Babe? Funded places are so limited and for everyone who scams the system like you want to, there are people who didn't get funded childcare who would have actually contributed to society as carers, nurses, teachers etc. So do it if you want but don't complain at the wait next time you go to A+E or that your gran can't get a carer or that your kid has a string of supply teachers because no one can take the full time job.

if im only able to generate 5k then would you prefer i stopped altogether in 2nd year?
Yes. If you can't support yourself, get a proper job. You have children to think about and their futures and you also need to provide for your own retirement. If 5k is enough to support you all (including paying your childcare bill) then crack on. Otherwise you haven't made 5k have you? You're operating at a loss if you can't pay your childcare to do the work!

I don't think starting a business is for you if you can't follow the law (self assessment is a bitch if you fuck up and get audited), and never mind the legalities of actually running a business such as IP laws, and if you can't actually add numbers up.

Staels · 07/01/2024 17:18

You plan to pay no, or minimal, tax as your business is a non starter. Yet you want to take thousands out of the system. Does this make you smart!? I’d rather be dim if so.
At least you have a shiny new camera to take pictures of yourself doing “nothing”.

punjama · 07/01/2024 17:12

Ok will just sit around doing nothing adding no economic to the economy and just go on unemployment benefits.

You do realise my concern is about scaling to 5k to 10k to more. For that you need time.

Say I only manage 7k in first year You want me to give up second year?

You lot are so dim. Surround yourself with certain people then expect the same from rest. Enjoy your day 👍

hipyy · 07/01/2024 17:10

@punjama I would be careful and look into it more before you apply. On the application you have to confirm that you are expected to earn over a certain amount each week for the next 3 months

OP posts:
Staels · 07/01/2024 14:43

Hopefully the amount you’d have to demonstrate as profit and tax you’d be required to pay make this non viable.
If not, you moan about covid contracts etc, then plan to commit a similar fraud. Good role model.

OneMoreTime23 · 07/01/2024 11:28

Advanced search is interesting.

punjama · 07/01/2024 11:27

Listen if your first thought is that the 15-30hours will be spent sun tanning and drinking stella that's more of a issue with your social circle. Some things take time and commitment to take off.

punjama · 07/01/2024 11:26

Yeah so the problem is not this the problem is wasting billions on foreign aid, crony COVID contracts and not going after billionaires.

You do realise that with some fields even if you are not earning you could be building a portfolio or learning that would then generate the new business? The skill and clients don't come from vacuum either.

I have no time for this. Childcare providers are stretched to shit working for low pay, this funding is a punch in the gut for them and won't work well even for those parents who are genuinely entitled to claim and are putting back in to society. You're a benefit cheat and I have no time for that.

Because it’s a real dick move and stretches the money that the people who actually work and need have to go round. It also puts increasing pressure on childcare providers to work at a loss with more funded hours.
if you don’t work, then why on earth should the government pay for your childcare? What a load of shite

This is exactly their plan. They also wish to register a different business after the first year to reset the clock...

What are you going to be self employed doing? Doesn’t sound like you have a plan other than make it sound you are working to claim funded hours?

Similar to photography. Service based. Equipment already purchased so no expenditure.

Thanks for reply. No not yet. Husband is,.plan was for me to register as self employed (although not sure as ltd or sole trader or what yet) at time of application so that we'd both count as working

Being the Director of a Ltd company is very different legally. And expensive to set up if you’re only planning on earning £10-18k a year. Wouldn’t be worth it.

When should we apply if we never had anything before? DC is 1.5, born may, seeking 15h...thanks!

You'll be eligible in September, apply from mid June time. Are you working and claiming tax free childcare? If so, no need to do anything it will be generated automatically.

As above, I rang this morning. Can only apply when you re-confirm details.
They said this should be very quick to get the code as already on the system.
I too have to wait till March as last confirmed in December.

RW1983 · 04/01/2024 13:21

So I got through to the helpline/customer services this morning on the phone. Basically you can only apply when your reconfirmation window opens for your tax free childcare account opens. So you know how you have to reconfirm your eligibility every 3 months? So when you do that, that’s when you can apply/get a code. Unfortunately I just had my reconfirmation in December so now I have to wait for March to get my code. Not sure how this will work with my child’s nursery though, because they bill a month in advance so I will get my bill for April in March…. But that’s another thing to sort out anyway!

Ohshitiveturnedintomymother · 04/01/2024 13:18

I reconfirmed my details yesterday and it then gave me a code for my 2 year old without me doing anything else. Might be worth trying that? I needed to reconfirm anyway so maybe it o my works when it’s due?
