why do parents send their children to me when they are very obviously unwell. I have just got over that flu bug, had it since xmas (never felt sooooo ill) and now they are sending me more sicky children. I know you cant avoid colds but when the children just cry all day, its not fair to the other children.

why do parents just feel they can pay me when they like. I even charge 20 for late ones but they still pay late.

am fed up......but feel bit better after my rant.

I cannot believe that a meeting is more important than being with your sick child. What kind of generation are we bringing up. How very very sad

vInTaGeVioLeT · 05/02/2008 19:20

i think frannyfroo has every right to come on here and discuss her problems - FGS it is annonymus it's not like she's naming names - she's just letting off steam

MaureenMLove · 05/02/2008 10:45

Good girl, see you in there!

franyfroo · 05/02/2008 10:41

Frany, if you talk in the staff room, you'll get cm's! Many people don't bother looking in there! Don't go elsewhere.

Fireflyfairy2 · 05/02/2008 10:29

But don't you think his/her mum would be very hurt if she thought you were discussing her son with strangers online, instead of calling & insisting she pick ds up.

I have to say I find it very strange that you left messages & she didn't get back to you..then you didn't mention it when she picked ds up... are you sure she got the messages? Are you sure you were calling the right number?

franyfroo · 05/02/2008 10:26

maureenmlove you are quite right. i will do it now.

i will also give up using this site, as non childminders are all just getting the wrong idea. i will find a site where i can talk freely with other minders only.

I always read the cm threads with fear.

Sometimes I will call my cm and tell her that ds has been up sick in the night so I won't be bringing him.. she always insists that I bring him so I don't miss time off work. She looks after one other mindee and she takes him when he is sick too. She said it's easy for her to get a blanket and spend all day cuddling etc.. when she just has the 2 mindees. (not as easy I can see when you have more than 2 which is why she won't over stretch herself re: mindees)

I have to say that I would hate her to take the child, then come online and bemoan the fact he is sick. In fact, i'd hate her to complain about ds at all I need to trust her, not feel concerned that she is taking my son just to earn money and that she will complain about him to anyone who listens/reads.

MaureenMLove · 05/02/2008 10:17

Thing is, you made a rod for your own back, tbh. When they arrived yesterday, you said that they didn't mention it and neither did you. Phone them now and TELL them unless they collect within the hour, you will be phoning your local cm advisor. It really is not on and they are taking the piss, if they are ignoring your calls and you hve only got yourself to blame if you didn't mention it when they collected last night. You are being walked all over. They are are taking you for a fool! It stops now!

franyfroo · 05/02/2008 10:13

i have had this before with parents years ago. I will send (yet another) reminder to everyone about sickness. They will on the hole ignore it but it makes me feel better lol.

No Frany it's not your problem, they have to stay home in this case, you did it yesterday. I would call them back, poor wee thing

MaureenMLove · 05/02/2008 10:09

But Franny, that's not your problem! Can you just tell me, did you call them yesterday to collect and they ignored your calls & txt messages?

franyfroo · 05/02/2008 10:02

well, he turned up snotty and hot again. but they have to go to work today.

You are infectious if you are actively producing lots of snot NannyL, which children often seem to do for weeks on end, whereas adults generally do not.

vInTaGeVioLeT · 04/02/2008 22:03

my bug bear would be
"why send me a child who is so tired that they just wan't to curl up and go to sleep"

this is very hard when you have school runs & activities planned for the other mindee's

GGGGGRRRRRRRRRR. . . .

vInTaGeVioLeT · 04/02/2008 21:55

frannyfroo said why do parents send a child when it is obviously unwell - she didn't say keep them at home if they have a cold

isthisunusual · 04/02/2008 19:42

Frany how sad. Crace, wasn'ton this thread.Just thought the comment sounded a bit 'off' didn't quite get what you meant! But obviously no ill meaning behind it so no worries!

MaureenMLove · 04/02/2008 19:33

OMG! You rang and txt for child to be collected?

franyfroo · 04/02/2008 19:30

rang parent and txt several times. left messages. she turned up normal time and didnt mention my calls.

hey ho

nannyL · 04/02/2008 18:50

if you are so infectious at the end of a cold how come they actaulyl allow you give blood...

and if they have anyodubt at all they dont let you give blood, they are extra cautiosue about anything!

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 04/02/2008 18:42

Fact is, snot is infectious.. you can catch a really nasty cold from a child who is at the tail end of their cold but is still snot-spreading. In other words a purely snotty child is not necessarily less infectious than a child too ill to be out.

pol27 · 04/02/2008 17:19

Just to clarify I was NOT blaming the child who gave my DS a cold for his croup, just stating that this child was too ill to be going out and about (it was actually a family members kiddo) and so we all got the cold, DD first then DP, me and DS last ~ so actually maybe I was the culprit!

A snotty nose is fine IMO. A snotty nose and feeling miserable, crying, temp etc... is not ok. They should be at home. Other mindees would of still expected to go out and about and so it either wouldn't be fair on the ill mindee or the well mindee's (or me for that matter).

Glad I don't have these battles anymore. Quit minding and now work out of hours to earn a wage, although winning the lottery would be much more gratefuly received

southernbelle77 · 04/02/2008 16:22

The nursery my dd used go to certainly would not have taken her if she was more ill than just having a cold or teething. They were VERY strict about it as it affects the other children and all the staff as well.
As a cm, I do take the children if they have colds, but as many of the other have said, it is not fair on the child who is ill and probably only wants their mum/dad and it is not unfair on the other mindees who can then in turn become ill, and it is also not fair on me as if I get ill then I cannot work and my family may well get ill too. It can affect a lot of people.

crace · 04/02/2008 16:14

Actually, I didn't see you on the thread before this so not sure what you are talking about. And of course, meant to be isthisunusual ooops
