Is she saying £50 for the week as it is only a few extra hours at the end of wach day and the child will be alseep for a lot of it?

What will the parents be off doing?

Blu · 04/01/2008 16:32

£50 for the week?

No way - that is seriously taking the piss. Don't do it at all.

God, your livelihood at stake for a whole load of extra work and responsibility, and £50?

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 04/01/2008 16:30

I would insist on it being all above board with anything necessary in wiriting. You need protection should anything go wrong.

If you're doing it for money, you've got to do it above board. Its just not worth the risk. Are you set up at home to have mindee all week? What about sleeping arrangements. I don't know how quickly Ofsted amend for overnight care, because I've never needed to know, but Rose or Nosnowthen will know whether they come out and check arrangements. Its an awfully big ask imho, but if its £50 a night, I supposed I'd cope!

Blu · 04/01/2008 16:04

£50 for the week, or £50 a night?

Personally, I think you need to do it officially. Supose the parents innocently / absentmindedly mentioned it to a busybody? Suppose you have some future row or dispute with them and your professionalism is called to account? Suppose there is an accident?

Contracts are to cover the eventualities you least want to happen - and it's in that eventuality that you need everything to be squeaky clean. IMO.

saff · 04/01/2008 15:45

yes I think she is hoping to pay about £50 my worry is if i did it as a favour what if something happened and she needed medical help or something would i still remain a favour doer or a sueable cm

I know people who have left DC with CM for a w/e or overnight, but it was a professional arrangement. Develop some 'overnight rates'.

Not at all reasonable that you do it as a favour.

Our daytime nanny once had DS overnight - I paid her for an extra day.

nosnowthen · 04/01/2008 15:27

Firstly you need to be registered for overnight care otherwise you're not insured and could get in trouble (although if NO pay overnight then you MAY be ok but no way would I do that for a week for a mindee!!)

I personally charge £70 a night - this rate was set by the parent who uses me for overnight care.

There is another overnight care thread and Rose has put her charges too.
