what happend her Saff???

ToomanynewyearsROSElutions · 05/01/2008 18:28

you need to persist this year in making sure they know this is a business arrangement!..the "i thought we were friends" line comes out when they want something!..my first mindee just left, her parents thought that as mindees contract was up for 'review(not renew) in nov she didnt 'really' have to pay up her contract as it should have been 'renewed!..she then aske dme to reduce her fee significantly for the last few week!..i had already out of the goodnees of my heart and not m pocket, allowed her to finish 3 weeks earlier than contract!(me losing over £300), when i said no to this and explained contract was ongoing..she said she was asking as a 'friend'!...the cheek!..my friend wouldnt be my friend if she expected me to turn down £500 +

saff · 05/01/2008 16:35

yes she is a bit weird i did have a talk with her when she did something else that really pissed me off last year and she just broke down in tears and said i thought you were my friend. i explained i was her cm and did not cm for friends. Also hobbie a bit aggresive spoke to him about continual latness and told me i was moody. Trouble is love my mindee and he gels well with my ds they are best of friends my ds would be heart broken if went also will be starting school together so will not be rid of mad m anyway

well as you saw from your other thread .. proxy parenting for a week is around £500 .. plus most people think it is same again for overnights and double time for weekends

I think you need to have a serious talk with this very odd parent

Don't do it as a favour! You run a business, so make sure you have a proper business arrangement. This means charging for the time she is using you. Yes her child will be asleep, BUT he might wake, you need to be in the house supervising, etc.

So charge normal rates for day.
Then charge for the extra hours too, including at the weekend.

I think £50 a night seems very fair TBH, plus normal daily fee, plus weekend fee!

MaureenMLove · 05/01/2008 11:17

O M G! Don't do it, just don't. The woman is deluded if she thinks she can suggest you take her lo on holiday with you. You do have a contract with her, do you? She sounds like a right royal PITA!

paros · 05/01/2008 11:16

well she wont be going to Spain then will she dozy mare . Please put a link up to the thread about your holiday and taking her ds with you ,I could do with a good laugh .

saff · 05/01/2008 11:04

I have spoken to her but she reslly does not live in real world at all she thinks that is fine as ds sleeps also offered to baby sit for me. I am always having to rein in boundries with this one . met her in playground twice before cm herds and she always tells people i am her friend but i have met people more at bus stop I do feel a bit sorry for her she does not seem to have any social skills and every time an outragous request is asked for when i say no she usually puts on a very dramatic perfprmanc. Last year when i went on holiday she wanted me to take her ds with me as she could not afford to take time off work.shock

She'd pay far more than £50 a week to put a dog in kennels ffs!

ToomanynewyearsROSElutions · 04/01/2008 21:58

oh yes..you MUST be reg as weel, no reg for overnight, no insurance!

ToomanynewyearsROSElutions · 04/01/2008 21:58

LOL, what a joker she is! from 6.30pm-8.30 am 6.00 per hour£84 per night...does she want him there every night for a week or just two nights(weekend)?..give her the rates and see how hard she hits the ground and takes her child on hol instead of flitting off!..naughty woman!
£84 x 5 nights = £420 plus your normal weekly(day) fee..say £120 ish(mine is)..£540 cheaper to take little one with her!..but excellent if she comes to her senses!

Tell her overnight is huge responsability and this means you will be 'working' 24/7 for 7 days..no one else would do that for 50 scabby quid!

maximummummy · 04/01/2008 21:06

oh my god - the fecking nerve of that parent

ADDICTEDtosayingHAAAAAAAPYxmas · 04/01/2008 19:08

does she mean £50 on top of what she normally pays you for the week?

nannynick · 04/01/2008 18:57

saff - the week? Is the parent crazy? In our area (noticed from another post that you were quite local) even an evening babysitting is paid more than they are offering.
For an overnight, I sometimes do it for £100 per night (at the families own home, as I'm not registered to provide it at my home).

Agree with others, if you are providing overnight care (that's 2am to 6am, legally) then you need to have the correct variation paperwork from Ofsted.

crace · 04/01/2008 18:07

£50 per week???? Madness. I agree, above board and for the proper rate or not at all!

MaureenMLove · 04/01/2008 17:31

Thing is, in any other profession, who would be expected to be paid, time & half for a late night & Saturday, and double time for nights and Sundays. It is just not acceptable. So in answer to you OP, either do it completely above board and she pays the going rate or don't do it at all. I have a feeling that when she realised how much its going to cost her, she won't ask you anyway!

nannyL · 04/01/2008 17:26

£50 for the week is outragouse

as a nanny IF i do over night i charge babysitting rate til 2300... then £30 for the night sleeping hours. (i always do this on working days so am just paid for my normal nanny duties the hours inbetween)

Many nannies i know charge £150 per 24 hours... I dont normally do that, but if hypothetically my bosses wanted me to ahve the chidlren during the weekend that would be what i woudl suggest! (cant imagine my bosses would go away for the weekend without the chidlren anyway)

MaureenMLove · 04/01/2008 17:00

God grieve, £50 for the week! Not a chance then. My fees are 50% extra for unsocialable hours, so that would amount to around £60 per night. (7 til 7)

Piggy · 04/01/2008 16:44

My nanny has stayed over a couple of times for various reasons and we pay her £70 net for the night. It's a huge responsibility and I really don't think you should do it unless you have all the proper authorisations/insurances and you must be paid well.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 04/01/2008 16:43

Oh I know. I am wondering if the mother sees it as just the same but for a few more hours.

Blu · 04/01/2008 16:39

But it isn't just a few extra hours of normal childminding work, is it?

Putting to bed, getting up, clothes and laundry, the non-stop being on duty, lack of family time, interruption of own children's routine, potential for disturbance in night, even for a common cold or cough...
