Which of the following do you feel is better?

A.) From £2.50 per hour (per child)
B.) £10 per hour (per family)

Please answer A or B along with how many children you have in your family... eg. A1, A3, B5 etc.

I'd want to know what the care they were offering actually was before deciding whether I was even interested!

edam · 22/09/2007 20:21

A since I only have one child.

looneytune · 22/09/2007 19:13

I was wondering the same.

Don't worry Nick, not quite sure why anyone would mind this sort of question

NKF · 22/09/2007 18:28

Did this thread taken an unexpected turn then?

lulumama · 22/09/2007 16:41

oh bless you ! i was a bit snippy , most unlike me .. hope you got what you needed !

mytwopenceworth · 22/09/2007 16:00

aw love, don't take on so.

Thank you all for your time and patience in responding to this thread (and the associated discussion thread).

I am sorry if anyone feels it was inappropriate of me to post this question, or for me to be rather blunt when it came to wanting it answered in a particular way. I thought that if there was discussion on the same thread as the question, then it would skew any useful results, which may then prevent this from helping the many childminders, other childcare providers, plus parents learn that when it comes to pricing of a personal service, parents must take care to collect all the facts, before they make a decision.

I am a regular contributor to Mumsnet, typically in this section, and I hope that the majority of what I write helps people. Some will cause controversy, sometimes I may upset someone, but I hope that the big picture view is that I am an asset to the community.

I am sorry if anyone feels it was wrong of me to post what I did. Will try harder next time... if you will still have me here

A-3 although depends on what is offered with each?

mytwopenceworth · 22/09/2007 15:03

Yes sir, only answering the question sir

A - 2 children.

Permission to speak freely sir......

Well, assuming I was happy with the care and had no issues and this was purely about payment choices........

A - since I only have 2 children.

If I had more than 4 children, I'd go with option B

Obviously.

Who in their right mind is going to say to you well, nick, I have one child so I think I'd choose to pay you £10 an hour instead of £2.50

I would probably say A as I only have one 5 yr old and 2 teens which don't need childcare.

If I had more than this say a set of 2 yr old twins and the 5 yr old then B.

I am also a childminder but charge £3.50 per hour (part-time) without the 'from' bit. I am NVQ Level 3 qualified and Ofsted suggested I charged £4 per hour because I am qualified. I explained that in our area alot of people just cannot afford that and I charged prices that both reflect my experience and affordability to parents.

I think the nursery who charged £30 per day and then 'signed out' the 12 month old child without checking she was with the parent/Grandparent at the time should be fined.

Flamesparrow · 22/09/2007 13:56

Hmmm...

I would want to know the variables with the from £2.50 per hour - it could start off at that and then add in x amount for age and various other things so work out much more pricey.

I am wary of anything stating "from" so for me - B2
