DBS checks

Well my dd is going starts childcare next week and I think I have done all the due diligence. I still have a nagging question about DBS checks. I requested copies of all the dbs checks on the staff and family members who have access. The childminder uses her house for childcare.
I was told that I can have a look but can't have copies because that's not the law.
Is this true or not?

You don't even have a right to see them and the childminder may not have seen ones for her family she will just have a letter of suitability from Ofsted that says they have seen them and the person is suitable. If a childminder is registered they have been suitability checked Ofsted are aware of who lives in the house and they have to be checked once they are 16.

As long as you have a look at them that will suffice. I wouldn't give people copies of mine or my family's checks as they contain personal information.

Don't worry. You are right to check everything you can.

Thanks everyone. I guess I'm just over thinking things. It's my first child and I already feel guilty. I just want to make sure she is safe.
Just needed reassurance

It's the ongoing checks by Ofsted which are important. The certificate is a historical document and only Ofsted will know about anything that has happened since that's date.

Yes, that true but they are of limited value. I would rather check they had up to date first aid and head down a few courses

With childminders it’s much better you get a feeling from the person and a warm friendly atmosphere.

RebelRogue · 01/02/2018 16:51

What would having a copy achieve that just looking at them won't?

insancerre · 01/02/2018 16:41

I'm a nursery manager and I'm not allowed to make and keep copies of my staffs dbs certificates

LIZS · 01/02/2018 16:37

Dbs check certificate belongs to the person and they are not required to give you a copy. What purpose would it serve?

chocolateorangeowls · 01/02/2018 16:36

Seeing them should be fine, I wouldn't have thought copies were necessary

OddBoots · 01/02/2018 16:36

It is true, you do not have any need for copies. If it is a registered setting Ofsted will do the checks so you don't even need to see them, the fact you are being offered sight of them is a good will gesture not a requirement.

SavoyCabbage · 01/02/2018 16:34

Why would you want copies?
