Just wondered what you have previously paid or charged and what you would be happy to pay or happy to charge.

Thanks

I agree that it's just one of these things where if you don't like the prices don't go out . If the prices are the norm then it won't be hard to get work. Maybe in some cases people are doing it because they would rather be going out & celebrating.

Also if you think about it New Year's day is a bank holiday & many people get paid double time to work on New Year's day so it's only similar to that.

I just wanted to say that if any of you need a babysitter and you live in the midlands, i'm your girl

i am 15, i know this might put you off but i have several first aid certificates and volunteer at the local brownie unit and have been doing so for the last 2 years.
i am very responsible and would like to become a primary school teacher.
I quote frequently babysit my younger relatives and used to look after a 12 month old boy

Oh goodness. Legal action?

littlestar76 · 02/01/2007 21:22

The person involved in this is quite in her right to take legal action as the post has been edited and the person who put the post up on here has added words herself stating they came from LMP when they obviously didnt as i myself have just gone and read the post and the word bitch was not used!

uwila · 02/01/2007 21:22

Doesn't matter. I gave up looking. Not important.

PlayNicelyNowEveryone · 02/01/2007 21:20

I was so cross I accidentally hit post too soon- I merely wished to add-

Unme-Grow up and stop trying to cause trouble!!

PlayNicelyNowEveryone · 02/01/2007 21:19

It seems we have a troublemaker in our midst. I am a member of the board that msg was posted on. Ive just logged in and the post in question actually read as follows-

So, what site is she bragging on? Have I been mentioned by name. Oh it's been a long time since nannyjob had a go at me. It could be fun.

clemsterdarcy · 02/01/2007 20:06

Are you a nanny available for work elfy ... i like your style of e0banging heads together so we all play nicely ... can you do the same when me and dh argue too please!!!????

Written comms can mislead sometimes -- hard to convey irony, humour etc. Also different cultures have different levels of forthrightness if you know what i mean. For eg i am always called a brash northerner by my dh whereas back in yorkshire my directness seems mild and not at all offensive

anyway thsts my attempt at diplomacy

fight fight fight!!!!!

thelittleElf · 02/01/2007 18:11

Not sure whats being going on here, but can i just say i think it's unnecessary to throw accusations around about someone who none of us know. I'm sure LMP is a smashing person, and of great credit to the family in which she works. I've read several responses of hers on other threads which have indicated as such.

I think we all know by now, that there ARE people on here, who in the past have caused many upsets for others (and am not naming, as those who i am talking about, jolly well know who they are!)

So come along girls, lets start the new year in a more positive way, and leave the bikkering to those smaller than us ok.

Thank you

Sunfower · 02/01/2007 17:59

No point lying I seen ya bragging on a certain site!

LittleMissPopular · 02/01/2007 17:56

I have never been a member of nannyjob and my name certainly is not Sharon but hey, if you want to think i am this other person then i dont mind!

justaphase · 02/01/2007 08:58

Don't know what exactly she got banned for.

She always had this sort of attitude though being really rude to people and generally hitting below the belt.

A favourite trick being to suggest to parents that they do not care about their children.

This is a person who as far as I gather is a fully qualified nanny with all bells and whistles. Quite a scary thought really...

eleusis · 02/01/2007 08:50

Oh do tell. What happened on nannyjob?

justaphase · 02/01/2007 08:25

I also think it is the same LMP that got banned from Nannyjob.

It is quit a scary thought that this person is looking after someone's kids.

I will personally never hire a nanny called Sharon just on the off chance that it is her.

Paddlechick666 · 01/01/2007 22:50

LMP, wind your neck in, Uwila is entitled to her opinion as are you.

However, in her case she hasn't passed any judgement whatsoever on your parenting or depth of love for your kid(s).

Personally, for an NY eve job I would pay an increased rate but only out of goodwill and gratitude. I certainly would NOT pay an inflated/held to ransom rate.

As it was, due to personal circs I wasn't going anywhere last night!

nannyk · 01/01/2007 22:13

I was wondering that too Sunflower.

I was supposed to work NYE but my charges (and their Dad) all got sick with a horrific DV bug, so they didn't go out. I ended up joining in the pukefest, holding babies over the sink and having to sponge down the carpet several times. It was a joy. I didn't get paid, nor did I want to, as they really needed my help to keep the babies hydrated so they wouldn't have to go to the emergency room which would have been HELL at that time on a New Years eve. I got a really nice Xmas bonus which I felt I deserved as I will go above and beyond. If the babies had been well, and the parents had gone out, I would have been paid a little more than my usual rate. But these were extenuating circumstances and as I knew what to do to help the babies (and the Dad) recover I just stepped in and helped. If I get a nice bonus next year I'll be happy. But Jeez it's not always about the money. I'm just happy no one ended up in the ER. The babis are still poorly but they are on the mend now, I'll probably have a date with the Porcelain King in the next few hours though so wish me luck LOL!!!!

Sunfower · 01/01/2007 21:53

Goodness LMP I cant believe your so agressive in your attitude! I agree Childminders/nannies/babysitters should get a fair wage ie doubletime but do you really need to be so hostile?

Are you the same LMP that got banned from Nannyjob?

unknownrebelbang · 31/12/2006 22:22

All that I can add to this thread is thank goodness for Grandad.

Alas, he's not in use tonight as DH is working until 1 am......and he's not getting paid extra for his shift just because it's New Year's Eve, and he's had the times adjusted at short notice.

Ok, ok, he's not a babysitter, but someone did say they would expect anyone working tonight to get paid extra.....and it's not always the case.

WeWishUAMerryXmasNANappyNewYr · 31/12/2006 21:26

btw i should mention i work in a restuarant not babysitting. i was just making the point that not everyone gets paid more ny eve! however the ones that are working 6 hours are getting paid double time.

we have a couple of babysitters - normally charges £5.50 per hour no matter how many children, the other charges £5 per hour or if there are 3 children she charges £6 per hour then £2 per hour for each extra child. i think this is fair.

both charge double time, on new years eve and xmas eve (a friend had to use one of them when she went to get last minute shopping) and time and a half on boxing day. don't know about new years day.

they both drive so this doesn't include getting home. if they didn't drive i'm sure they would expect taxi home paid for or be paid more to cover it.

so for the example that was given, 7 hours work with 4 children. my one babysitter would charge £11 per hour, the other £16.

flutterbee · 31/12/2006 21:25

In the early 90's when I was very young (13/14) I was paid £5 per hr and as much food as I wanted to babysit for a local MP, I think I was very very lucky.

However anyone who begrudges someone (babysitter/taxi driver/bar staff rather than large global company) earning a few extra £'s for a once a year occassion is surely just a total tight wad.

Chill out cheer up and have a good new year.

WeWishUAMerryXmasNANappyNewYr · 31/12/2006 21:05

i worked tonight - i didn't get paid more! you only get paid more if you work 6 hours at our place -most people are working 5 - 10:30 so won't get paid any more. even xmas day we didn't get paid more. my friend did 3.5 hours so just got normal pay. it takes the piss!
