interviews tomorrow i need two nannies to cover for me next week

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Blondeshavemorefun · 16/08/2015 12:15

True liz - personal recommendation is worth it's weight in gold

But so are nice families and I was be very :( if I thought a family I had worked for previously wouldn't use me as I had to leave a family in the lurch as my bf was almost dying

If you must find someone Nannyuk then use an agency.

You quoted £12nph last time and I rem this as thought weird quoting nett and not gross as a temporary /emergency role - so the job and you is well paid

Tbh I can't believe you won't pay a few hundred pounds to an agency so you can take a week off to be with your ill be - yet paid £4k to a total stranger so she could escape from the situation you posted about last month

nannyuk · 16/08/2015 12:11

hi thanks to the people that replied with helpful comments rather than hate. i think with the kids its more out of sight out of mind. the dad doesnt care as long as they are not harrasing him. I wanted to find a nanny that would continue the progress that i havee made with the children and not just dump them on anyone. I wanted two nannies because i thought it was a bit much on one nanny at short notice

I will send you some details and send you a DM OP ...

LIZS · 16/08/2015 12:05

Maybe it is unrealistic to find a single person to cover 24/7 at such short notice. Not exactly £££ either.

TwartFaceBeetj · 16/08/2015 12:01

I might have no idea how your jobs work. But in that case please tell me why she needs two nannies to cover what she is doing?

LIZS · 16/08/2015 11:58

Blondes, I was assuming op had worked for the family's friends in a similar capacity, ie while on a stay in UK , so they not be here now to assist. I'm guessing she doesn't want to blot her copybook for future work, as personal recommendation and networking is useful, hence why she is seeking an alternative herself. If so I'd have thought paying an agency might be preferable to loss of potential work.

LynetteScavo · 16/08/2015 11:38

I agree lots of posters have no idea, and I can totally understand the family asking you to sort this out, but this really isn't in your job description as a nanny. You should not have to be paying an agency - what's that about?

Isn't there a PA to call an agency? I think you need to tell the family your advice is to recruit through an agency. Surely money isn't an issue?

Are they saying you can't have time off unless you sort out cover yourself?

You haven't said where the interviews are, etc.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/08/2015 11:33

I hope your bf is ok but from what I rem you are a self employed nanny who flts from family to family bit like me

Anyway you dictate terms and contract and If you need time off you take it. Yes nice to find a replacement but not by asking total strangers off an Internet forum - but if you can't then I would be taking the time off regardless of my bf was that ill

And no you can't delete posts off mn or everyone would press delete when they get replies they don't like

This job I think was to work in a hotel while a family was on holiday - I could go through the search mode but can't be bothered

Again if you worked for their friends then sure they would help out and look after the children if the nanny suddenly needed to take time off work

Dencar · 16/08/2015 11:25

I am amazed at the number of nasty bitchy comments and "advice" from people who CLEARLY have no idea what it is like working in SOME private homes.
Every family has unique needs, requirements and expectations. Some reasonable, some unreasonable - that's how some of these jobs are.
.
To all of the people with their unpleasant and critical comments, if you feel the need, say what you think but say it without the he judgement and nastiness!!!
.
NannyUK, I do know what it's like in some of these VIP &/or HNW roles. Just as you are, I have needed to find someone at times to cover for me.
.
If I wasn't in a current booking, I would be in touch with you privately to see if I could help with your cover. I am sorry I can't offer to help you out.
Best of luck in finding cover.
.
Do ignore the unpleasant comments from people who clearly have no idea what it is like in some of the private jobs we do.
Best wishes.

Redglitter · 16/08/2015 11:19

According to your previous posts you've only been in this job what a month? It reads like you only do temporary work - a holiday nanny? So why not just pack the job in. It's not like you've been there for years Hmm

TwartFaceBeetj · 16/08/2015 11:18

shocking amount spag, wish there was an edit button. That's what you get typing on a phone and managing dc and friends at the sametime Blush

TwartFaceBeetj · 16/08/2015 11:12

I not laughing, I think are being treated very badly buy your employer. It shouldn't matter who they are you deserve to have the same rights as everyone else.

If the reason for your time off is true, then that makes them even more callous,

Do yourself a favour and get another job were you are treated as a humanbeing and not a robot.

nannyuk · 16/08/2015 11:05

for goodness sake i know this is a laughing matter to you. I need the time off because my bf is in hospital. He is having an operation that might save his life next week. I am under an immense amount of stress and i come here for help and just get a lot of shit. i would delete the whole post but i cant work out how to do it.

OP posts:
TwartFaceBeetj · 16/08/2015 11:01

Well she obviously know she's been taken advantage of, because she's having to get two nanny's to do her job whilst she's away. So sounds like any other nanny wouldn't but up with the work load and VVVVVV VIP expectations.

wizzywig · 16/08/2015 10:54

twartface, i guess its the downside of working for a vvv vip family

TwartFaceBeetj · 16/08/2015 10:14

Wow if my employer had me working 24/7, got huffy because I wanted time off, so expected me to find the cover and pay agencies fees if I used one. I think I'd be looking for a new job. It doesn't sound like a great place to work to be honest.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 16/08/2015 10:14

Are you in the UK? If so, you are legally entitled to annual leave - even if not specified in your contract.

Is this unpaid leave? That is slightly different. But if you're exercising your right to statutory annual leave then it's not your responsibility to find a replacement. If its contractual annual leave over and above your statutory entitlement - then that is slightly different and there can be conditions attached.

However - I would speak to them. If they are a VVIP, what's to stop a journalist (or worse) mocking up references and turning up for an interview? Surely an agency would be better and safer

NorbertDentressangle · 16/08/2015 10:14

So are this VVIP family happy about you recruiting some random stranger from the internet to look after their VVIP children next week?

nannyuk · 16/08/2015 10:14

this family were not through an agency because i worked for some of their friends before so they asked me to continue working

OP posts:
LIZS · 16/08/2015 10:11

I'm confused . Do you get your bookings via an agency or are you freelance. If the former are they aware you are subcontracting?

nannyuk · 16/08/2015 10:06

and i have only posted once about the same job

OP posts:
nannyuk · 16/08/2015 10:00

how the fuck do any of you know? Yes it is left to me and yes they have asked me to find someone so quickly. Honestly its such a bitch fest on here. Agencies do exactly the same thing as i am to find someone and obviously i would interview and check references. i cannot afford to pay agency prices and the family feel that as need the time off i should fnd someone. so if you can all stop biting my head off that would be great.

OP posts:
TeddyBear5 · 16/08/2015 10:00

How do you know op is always off work?

Because she/they post the same odd posts most weeks. It's dodgy. Please don't anyone respond to this 'advert' let alone send their poor unsuspecting daughter along. Hmm

Lagodiatitlan · 16/08/2015 09:53

If I were a VVIP family, I would be appalled at the idea that my existing nanny was advertising on Mumsnet to a bunch of random strangers. I would be particularly appalled at the suggestion that the job was with a VVIP family as that would risk attracting undesirables. Poor judgement, Nanny UK. There are lots of agencies out there who are experienced in this kind of recruitment.

NannyR · 16/08/2015 09:45

I agree, VIP/high profile families would usually just hand this straight to an agency, they can afford the high fees and the agency will send appropriate, referenced and DBS checked candidates out for interview.

As an experienced nanny, I really wouldn't want to apply for a job advertised like this, not saying that you aren't genuine, but you could be anyone; likewise you could have any number of unsavoury characters applying for the job.
