Do you always give cash to nanny for Christmas?

I have a new nanny and am already thinking about her Christmas pressie/s - i know people typically give a week's salary (in her case, £300 - she is live in) - but what do you guys suggest? do you think lots of presents equal to a week's salary, combination of cash + little nice pressies or just plain cash with just stocking fillers be the ideal present? I have to add that I really like her but don't want to go completely OTT

Whooooosh - yes please

Well, it was about 8 years ago I last nannied in London. My last job in Kent was 6 years ago, live out, and I got around £250/week.

nannyj · 16/11/2006 14:06

NAB3 I work in London and earn £320 nett a week. I'm going to change jobs next year and there are jobs payig £350 - £400 a week.

Whooooosh · 16/11/2006 14:02

Blimey-I wasn't looking at a weeks wages-although new nanny did only start last week.
Will be pressies from us.

I did however give my nanny a bonus earlier in the year because I got one and I reckon I am only able to work as well as I did and earn a bonus becasue she was so great.

I have a nanny diary and it is fantastic-do you want me to look up the details??

NAB3 · 16/11/2006 11:45

I still think that is a lot!

NAB3 · 16/11/2006 11:44

It's the scarf and gloves I have!!!!!

RedTartanLass · 16/11/2006 10:22

NAB3 - impressed you still have chocolates from 10 years ago!!!

balancingact · 16/11/2006 07:18

NAB3, yes £300 live in, but i do live in london! i think we are going for cash (maybe £150) then a number of pressies from me/hubby and let the kids do something for her (i have two )

Did same as Pollyanna last year, nanny v happy and drank it over the festive season!

anniebear · 15/11/2006 20:13

I just got a nice present for Christmas when I was a Nanny

Not a hugely expensive one, but a nice thought

I would have never expected a bonus or a weeks wage!!!!

DarrellRivers · 15/11/2006 19:33

I think generous cash bonus, plus proper present from us and smaller present from the junior members

Pollyanna · 15/11/2006 19:32

We used to give cash from us, and little presents and home-made cards from the children. Couldn't afford a weeks wages though -I probably gave £100.

Coolmama · 15/11/2006 19:31

We will do a cash bonus, one "big" present and a small gift from DS.

mozhe · 15/11/2006 19:29

Always pay bonus equivalent to 1 weeks wages + generous gift from dh and I and little trinkets from DCs....we can afford it though and she is fantastic....plus we have 5, aged 5 and under ! So she deserves it !

HuwEdwards · 15/11/2006 19:22

nanny who?

janett · 15/11/2006 19:19

Hi, I still receive a cheque every christmas and the 'baby' is now in her 30's. Just waiting to be her Nanny as well !!!

NAB3 · 15/11/2006 18:50

£300 and she LIVES IN??

I haven't really heard of one weeks salary being the norm. I worked for 2 families. One gave me a box of chocs and £100. The other bought me some lovely presents and gave me some cash too. Another family gave me gloves and a scarf from Harrods. This was over 10 years ago and I still have them.

NannyL · 15/11/2006 18:35

I have only ever had a cahs bonus at X mas once!

i do always get a really "nice" present though... but i also give my charges and parenst really nice gifts too!
