My CM has found a lump in her breast which obviously she's worried sick about and has booked herself an appointment at a private hospital for Tuesday, she's told me this, not asked if it's ok iyswim. Now I know i'd be worried to death about finding a lump but I really cannot take this time off and DH would be unpaid which we can't afford. I don't want to sound like a heartless cow but she had Friday off at short notice for an uncles funeral and now this, would it be completely awful to ask her to rebook for Wednesday ?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
AvaLou · 04/09/2006 14:00

This is awful, surely the person who cares for your children should be a person you care about?
There is no way yu would be 'sacked' for taking a day off, especially in such circumstances.

LoveMyGirls · 04/09/2006 13:54

i think she's a troll making it up get a reaction - which is exactly what she got. if she is for real then she off her rocker! alot of what she said doesnt add up imo.

Just want to make this clear - I personally said she was heartless due to her whole attitude about it. Her wording was TERRIBLE imo!

gscrym · 04/09/2006 13:45

I would make her aware bacause she would maybe able to suggest someone else to have DD for the day. It's a horrible choice between asking what everyone has told you is heartless and possibly losing your job.
Could DH take the day off but do some overtime to make it up so as not to lose money.

Blu · 04/09/2006 13:41

Actually (back in the Real World) , if there were really a situation in which the choice was 'move the appt or I will risk losing a job and you will be out of work', I WOULD at least make the CM AWARE of the situation! Wouldn't you?

gscrym · 04/09/2006 13:35

Are there any day nurseries that do emergency care? I know DS's one does if you give them a ring, even if your child isn't registered with them. Try ringing round them to see if any can help or ask your CM if any of her CM colleagues would be able to take your little one for the day.

My childminder did something similar. Her daughter in law had huge problems with her pregnancy and had to be delivered but was also told that the baby was so badly deformed that she wouldn't survive. I took the time off and got disciplinary action against me. I'd do the same again in a heartbeat. She was like family to us and I would do the same for family. If you feel you can ask her to reschedule then fine. If you do then I don't know how it'll affect your working relationship.

looneytune · 04/09/2006 13:10

Totally agree with you. I got so at this thread and had so much I wanted to say but so many other people have already said what I wanted to say and she's so heartless, nothing will get through to her!!

Honestly, most of us here on MN are nice people who do care for others

foxtrot · 04/09/2006 13:01

looneytune, hi. Mainly I am saddened that anyone should even be asking themselves this kind of question, let alone a bunch of complete strangers. Secondly, there seems to be no recognition that the poor CM's ordeal is not going to be over on Tuesday, this is potentially life-changing. Thirdly, it appears that angelachill has chosen a lifestyle without thinking through and taking responsiblity for the consequences. Maybe she need stop worrying about what the rest of the world thinks about the size of her house, what she wears on the school run, referring to the CM as a nanny fgs. and just get back to basics - health and happiness!

looneytune · 04/09/2006 09:18

Welcome newbie

Christ if my DP was earning 750 notes a day, the last thing on my mind would be childcare!!!!!

Still don;t get the whole attachment parenting thing either. There are some issues here methinks.

kid · 03/09/2006 19:37

I have just sat and read this thread from the beginning, it doesn't add up at all!

Mental. You came on here looking for peoples opinions about your situtaion, which you were given. There have been some who have sympathised with you, and there have been lots of excellent suggestions given as to alternative childcare, which you have chosen to ignore I totally understand that you have reservations about leaving your child with just anyone, as there are only 4 people in the whole world I yrust with DS, but if I was in such a fix as you, I would put my reservations aside, given that your child would be perfectly safe in the hands of an experienced and police checked childminder.

I think resigning because you can't get childcrae for one day is a total overreaction tbh. You are just being awkward for the sake of it, as far as I can see.
