My nanny won't give me her ofsted number

deerkitty · 22/05/2014 06:46

Hi
Is there anywhere else I can get an ofsted number from? My nanny is on maternity leave and the tax credits people have written quite a threatening letter to me demanding all my info by a certain date. I have text and emailed her but no response. I really need it as they will stop payments if I do t provide all info.

If she was away surely she could just text me 'I'm away'.

Is there anywhere else I can get it from?

The joys of iPhones. It's annoying when you know your message has been read and no reply

Even if she had out - not sure where certificate is - will try and find it etc

Saying that all my nanny stuff is in a folder that I take to interviews so if any employer needed to know my DBS or public liability no I know where it is and could send it asap

Hope new temp nanny works out and sounds like old nanny won't come back as distance is too far and again may not want to leave her baby as sounds to me you need a childless nanny as your dc has sen

Good luck

AMI88 · 24/05/2014 09:52

I'm surprised this thread is still going strong haha

Glad you got the info you needed OP! Perhaps wait for nanny to contact you now, as said she may not want to return now she has moved house.

Good luck with your childcare! X

Longtalljosie · 24/05/2014 07:17

I think some people have a very strange attitude. There are things you don't have to do, but you do as part of human decency. If your employer has an unexpected emergency and your baby is three months old, you can dig out your Ofsted number in 3 days. It's perfectly reasonable. And if this sort of thing is typical I can see why you don't have the best relationship. Give and take is even more important if someone works in your home.

deerkitty · 24/05/2014 07:08

I have temporary cover in place that runs to the end of the leave with option to extend for a year.

I'm not going to know if she was 'ignoring me' or got distracted. I don't think her phone number had changed as there is still a personalised greeting and the message came up as read on my phone (it's an iMessage),

This thread will run and run, I don't dislike her at all, there are things that I think she could have done better that's all and I did prior to her going on maternity leave come on here posting for advice on how to handle it.

I have the number (hopefully) after a lot of stress for me, I've sent it all off, I guess it's in the hands of the tax credit people now.

The baby is 3mths and the nanny has been seen out and about

At first I thought op was being a bit demanding by 'harassing' her nanny for the number and thought new born baby

But as older and not even one reply in 5days I think is rude of the nanny

What are you doing for childcare at the moment op?

OutragedFromLeeds · 24/05/2014 01:57

If the nanny is deliberately ignoring the OP, that is rotten.

We don't know that she is do we? There is no rule that says you must always assume the worst of everyone you know? You are allowed to give people the benefit of the doubt. She has a new baby, it's been 5 days. There is every chance she hasn't seen it/has forgotten/is in a bad place and just can't deal with it. To me that seems more likely than the nanny thinking 'what would really enhance my maternity leave is my employer going bust and being unable to pay me'.

PowerPants · 24/05/2014 01:14

I agree with Blondes. I think you have been fine, I think the nanny ignoring you is rotten.

PixieofCatan · 24/05/2014 00:41

outraged I can't unless I'm camping Blush I desperately wish that I could though! I can be really bad with replying to contact though, I have fibro and when it flares and the fibro fog really kicks in I'm unable to do much apart from work. As soon as I walk into my flat I just switch off. I'm certain I've 'ignored' people for a week or two before that I really shouldn't because of it, entirely through just not being able to cope with new information though rather than because I don't fancy replying Hmm It wouldn't surprise me if sleep deprivation from caring for a newborn could cause a similar effect.

OutragedFromLeeds · 24/05/2014 00:19

I think there are some people who are permanently attached to their phone and they just can't comprehend that other people aren't. I can easily go 48 hours without my phone and I don't even have a newborn as an excuse!

PixieofCatan · 24/05/2014 00:14

I can see why she would purposefully ignore it if that's the case, as it's obvious that OP doesn't like her! This can go round and round in circles tbh. I highly doubt that she's purposefully ignored OP, because at the end of the day, OP is paying her maternity and unless she has a mega-rich partner they will need the income.

The most likely scenario is that she's gotten distracted, probably hasn't checked her email in a few days (or it's gotten caught up in spam and junk even with junk filters bitter experience ) and just didn't get to the phone. A whole other load of things may have happened too. Such as switching phones, or her phone being broken, or having no signal and being with a company who doesn't push texts through, or a relative is ill and she can't concentrate, or she's on holiday, or just she's having a shit week with the baby and isn't coping with any outside requests. In this day and age we seem to expect people to be available all of the time, or check their phones/computers at least daily, and some people just don't.

cutefluffybunnes · 24/05/2014 00:02

I can see why OP doesn't like her -- she hasn't bothered to answer a very simple request in 5 days!

PixieofCatan · 23/05/2014 23:54

Outraged explains it brilliantly. Your attitude on here is negative, it most likely seeps through. I'm guessing that the nanny isn't stupid. I've once worked for somebody who didn't really like me much and thought that I was stupid, I'm certain that they thought that they hid it very well, but I could tell.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/05/2014 23:49

She waited a month till she told you??? That's awful

The fact your nanny hadn't replied at all in now 5 days is awful

Even a text reply saying she didn't know what her no was would have been nice rather then ignoring

Seems you are not keen for her to come back and depending on what sen your dc had also depends if you have a nwoc - obv you have to offer her the job back / but as orginal terms ie no baby / but as a 40min drive she prob won't if has to leave her baby with childcare

Maybe your nanny has changed her phone number?

Eyelet · 23/05/2014 23:06

OP I think you've had a harsh time on this thread, I just wanted to offer some Wine

OutragedFromLeeds · 23/05/2014 23:03

Sounds like it has come to an end then. I hope the next nanny is better!

deerkitty · 23/05/2014 22:44

Outraged I don't know how she can come back. The job is here for her but she has moved a good 40 min drive away, also it's not fair on dd to have a baby in the house she can't cope with it. Time will tell as I say I have the number so won't bother her again.

OP posts:
deerkitty · 23/05/2014 22:42

I think almost three months old. She didn't tell me she'd had the baby until about a month after it was born. I knew when she was due but again didn't want to keep asking for news so waited for her to tell when she was ready.

OP posts:
OutragedFromLeeds · 23/05/2014 22:41

I think your negative relationship with her may be colouring your view on this issue. You have the number now though? Hope she doesn't want to come back after her ML.

Bunnytheeggrobat · 23/05/2014 22:34

Mixed feelings on this. How far in to mat leave is she?

After DD1 I barely had the energy to speak for several weeks let alone answer texts like this .

DD2 - was fine and I was functioning normally from day 2 . If she had been my first I would have found it hard to understand why the nanny hadn't replied.

deerkitty · 23/05/2014 22:17

To be honest yes, if she hadn't gone on mat leave I'm not sure I would have kept her on, I've been so careful to do everything the right way. There are a number of things she has done to upset me quite a bit as far as the children go but I'm not going to put them on here. I've always been polite and professional.

OP posts:
OutragedFromLeeds · 23/05/2014 22:07

I don't think the way you've gone about contacting her is out of order. Text, email, phone call are all fine imo. Your attitude towards her on this thread is unpleasant imo.

Is she normally rude/inconsiderate?

deerkitty · 23/05/2014 21:46

Also she isn't away my friend saw her yesterday at the local shop as I mentioned in passing to her!

OP posts:
deerkitty · 23/05/2014 21:42

I text her Monday, emailed her Wednesday and on someone here's advice called Thursday. I checked with acas if I can call someone and I can apparently, so I have done all above board. So we are now day five, I asked her to please come back to me by today as info needed to be there by Tuesday. She hasn't so as I explained I got from tax credits.

The general consensus seems to be I'm out of order. I would personally call someone back out of politeness if I knew that they were having some issues. All my correspondence to her including the message was very polite and nice, I haven't been rude or demanding once. Yes I came on here to vent but surely that's better than venting elsewhere!

cutefluffybunnes · 23/05/2014 21:39

OP has had a rough ride on here. If my employer texted me while I was on maternity leave and wanted some info, I would at the very LEAST text her back pretty sharpish and say I'll have a look for that. (If I was somewhere where I could get text messages - she and the baby could be trekking in Nepal for all we know.) Just so she knows I'm on the case, even if I can't get to it straight away. Your employer is still your employer when you are on maternity leave! I loved getting my mat leave cheques - it's worth being professional about anything that involves being paid in full and on time.

Softlysoftlycatchymonkey · 23/05/2014 21:30

I don't think you have to speak to your employers when on maternity.
