Article in Nursery World and letter from Gove to Ofsted make clear the whole workforce is to be deregulated not just c/ms !!!

E y f s (hate apple spell checker!)

I don't understand what the objection is. As a parent I think eyes is a silly bit of extra paperwork for childminders. Is anyone really going to miss it?

I love my childminder to bits. And I'm sure she would be just as fab without writing it all down. My 1 year old couln't care less either.

i'm glad i've got my childcare foundation degree now and I'm certainly off to another profession!

It seems to me that they are removing the requirement for Ofsted to carry out an inspection of someone on Part A of the Childcare Register (note: nannies are on Part B, so does not apply to nannies at this stage) every 3 years.

The Childcare (Inspections) Regulations 2008, Provision 3 has been revoked along with a number of other provisions.

3.?(1) This regulation applies in the case of an early years provider who, immediately before 1st September 2008 was registered under section 79F of the 1989 Act and, on 1st September 2008, becomes registered in the early years register(1).
(2) An early years inspection must be conducted?
(a)within the period of 3 years beginning with 1st August 2009, and
(b)thereafter, within each period of 3 years beginning with the 1st August following the date of the previous early years inspection.

Looks to me that it has been replaced by all providers registered before 1st August 2012 must be inspected by 31 July 2016.
Then all providers registered on or after 1st August 2012 having an inspection within 3 years of 1st August following their registration.
So a childminder (on early years register) registered on 1st November 2012 would be inspected by 1st August 2016.

EYFS 2012 says that "3.74 Providers must make available to parents and/or carers details about how to contact Ofsted, if they believe the provider is not meeting the EYFS requirements. If providers become aware that they are to be inspected, they must notify parents and/or carers. After an inspection, providers must supply a copy of the report to parents and/or carers of children attending on a regular basis."

So after the inspection in 2016, I think that Ofsted will only be doing complaints visits inspections, which providers have to tell parents about and provide a copy of the report. Ofsted would continue to do the year 3 inspection of new providers.

Is that how you read it?

I think you need to read about why deregulation has been proposed mainly a cost cutting exercise
Nannies I do not think are included in this deal
You are registered with Ofsted but not inspected and do not have to deliver EYFS

This is for c/ms, nurseries and preschools...follow discussions on Twitter or Facebook if you can to get the history behind this!!!

Also read centreForum report on their website and look at why Childcare Commission has been set up

When you read the article from Nursery World click on 'letter' and you will see what Gove wrote to Sir Michael Winshaw in July which is basically going ahead with deregulation Phase 1 for the whole workforce not just c/ms....
I feel we were used as a smokescreen while he planned this !!!

Please respond to the Childcare Commission which closes end of August but also join calls to extend it as everyone is on holiday and the timing is dubious.
(if you are on Twitter you can follow this there)

We need to be given opportunity to respond before decisions are taken as we were promised full consultation!!

If nurseries start inspecting I'm off

broodyandpoor · 08/08/2012 21:37

so what does this mean for someone who is just about to start an early years degree? Is my career doomed to low wages and no working rights or will I be valued and free from ofsted?

Dozer · 08/08/2012 21:03

Thank you v much nick. Am not clear what the letter / regulations mean though (bit dim this eve). May look into it again when not tired!
