Parents sending children to cm while they are on holiday themselves

Not looking for a argument or aibu type thread.

Am new to cm and have a 6mo mindee 60 hours per week, mum has a day off next week (which she did not even need to tell me about) but has said she will still send said mindee as she would like a day to herself.

I actually offer a large discount on days when mindees are not with me so can't even put it down to wanting to get her monies worth.

Was just really wondering how common other childminders have found this?

It's obviously no problem for me to have the child and I am loving my new job, it just makes me a bit sad for the baby itswim.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
YourFanjoIsNotAHandbag · 18/05/2012 20:43

you started it by saying how sad it was, which prompted people to either agree or disagree it was "sad"

scottishmummy · 18/05/2012 20:43

followed up by I presumed...
smacked of why have em if you let strangers watch em
sad
you said
sad...

susiemumof · 18/05/2012 20:42

The original questions being whether or not childminders usually had mindees sent to them while parents were on holiday. I posted this as a new childminder who was surprised that this had happened (never once did I say it was wrong) I wanted feedback from others about their own experiences.

Somehow the sahm vs wohm brigade translated this to whether or not it was right for the mum to send mindee to me while she was on holiday.

That's the thing isn't it, you could have just asked "is this usual" when you started with the sadness it became very Judgy.

scottishmummy · 18/05/2012 20:39

was you being sad relevant
clear bias and emotional emphasis

susiemumof · 18/05/2012 20:38

Not back peddling at all, the child is with me for a 60 hour week it was relevant to the original question I was asking.

OP posts:
scottishmummy · 18/05/2012 20:37

no not at all
proportionate ire
at daft post

bigpaws · 18/05/2012 20:36

I can see this thread has got totally blown up out of proportion. People get so irrational like with the 'baby in a buggy with a breadstick' thread which has now been removed. I am a childminder and a parent. Yes it is hard to get the balance right at times. But I love my job and I love my kids - just like all you other MNs.

scottishmummy · 18/05/2012 20:35

your op sad for the baby
after discussing it's 60hr week.clearly you disapprove
your back peddling no

susiemumof · 18/05/2012 20:33

Fanjo- which post said I was sad mindee spent so long in childcare? You will have to copy and paste or give me the time of the post.

In my op I said I felt sad that the mum was not spending the day with the baby, at no point have I said the baby spends to long in childcare.

OP posts:
scottishmummy · 18/05/2012 20:32

what wee additional treats need a 60 hr week?
do tell

scottishmummy · 18/05/2012 20:30

your posts
that's good start
the I just presumed...
sad for the baby

the mum works 60hr week, and so do you!

YourFanjoIsNotAHandbag · 18/05/2012 20:29

But according to you, you were sad that the baby spent so long in childcare.

eastnorth · 18/05/2012 20:28

Susumu of think you have hit a raw nerve with a lot of working mums on here. Scottishmummy she is still looking after her child all day though, her way.

susiemumof · 18/05/2012 20:26

Show me one post on here where I have judged mindees mum for working 60 hours a week!

Also I may not spend as much one on one time with my youngest dd during the day that I did with my elder dc but she gains loads from having other children around during the day.

scottishmummy · 18/05/2012 20:25

cm works 60hr week
judges mum for...60hr week
kettle
black
pot

YourFanjoIsNotAHandbag · 18/05/2012 20:22

I love people that say "oh I don't need to work so hours a week, I do it to buy little treats" and then judge people that actually do have to work to pay for actual things like food, light and heat

scottishmummy · 18/05/2012 20:18

but you're minding and attending to someone else kids 60hr a week? means your kids not getting full attention. surely. given you're working

what fripperies do you need that require you work a 60hr week

susiemumof · 18/05/2012 20:11

My own children are with me all day, that's what happens when you are a childminder you look after your own children as well as others Hmm

OP posts:
scottishmummy · 18/05/2012 20:05

lol,no you don't get to determine what points we discuss
write an iffy post expect to get called on it
I'm curious though...for someone who doesn't need to work.(and only does it for fripperies for the kids) that you work 60hr week

gosh whenever do you see or attend to your own children.all that working

susiemumof · 18/05/2012 19:56

I think we have already covered all these points! several times actually!

I am not biting the hand that feeds me!

I am not slagging of mindees mum

and

If this job did not pay for my "little treats" I would be finding another job that did Hmm bit obvious that one!

I do this because I enjoy it far more than my old job, however if i ever needed to I would go back to my old job and start using childcare again myself (:o shock horror the terrible childminder actually used childcare herself in the past!!)

OP posts:
DowagersHump · 18/05/2012 19:42

Perhaps if you weren't slagging off your clients on a website that is largely populated by said clients, then you wouldn't get a drubbing? Just a thought.

Biting the hand that feeds you is never a wise move. And then how would you pay for all those little treats?

scottishmummy · 18/05/2012 18:38

face you wrote a shitty post
and got called on it
instead of thinking, yes was bang out of order, you chose to get all huffy and owww get the abuse I've suffered

and nah, even if you prefix your petty gripes with cm club you'll still get rumbled if you're bitching about the working mums.

and the working mum is a hero, clearly driven and hard working having to put in a 60hr week - she needs a medal not derision

FayeGovan · 18/05/2012 18:09

yup, scary the amount of backlash you can get on here....

susiemumof · 18/05/2012 18:06

Ahhh right Faye thank you! Rookie mistake Confused I have lurked a fair bit and noticed the club thing so will keep that in mind in future!
