Ive have emplyed 5 au pairs and 5 nannies. All of them bar 1 have taken the piss out of me to varying degrees.

The current so to be not one is a nanny/HK to my 2 teenagers. `fully ofsted registered and paid £26k a year live in ( in Manchester ).

I have discovered she is taking some ( not all ) of our laundry to the local ironing service and paying for it out of the kitty. Treating her self to lunch and coffee out of the kitty most days ( usually in Starbucks ) and shopping exclusively for her food for her self contained accomodation on the family credit card ( which is for work use only ) in Marks and Spencesr when she shops for the children in Morrisons and won't eat what they are eating.

On top of that she is she says too busy to do cleaning yet most days is somewhere other than my house in our car. I know this because we have randomdly popped home during the day and she is out in our car not hers and I can see where she has been using the credit card......35 miles in the opposite direction to the one school run she needs to do a day.

She also sneaks things for her own home through amazon on our account too. Ive found the delivery notes in the bin !!!

Dear God I feel a fool. I thought I could trust this one. The others have mainly been worse. The one before faked a family death to get a months compassionate leave and snuck off to America on holiday. She never came back !!

Oh well. You live and learn. I will never employ a nanny again Thank goodness and good luck and my commiserations to all of you who unfortunately still have no choice.

Im here for advice !!!!!!!Coz I got it so right !

Oops, totally failed to notice the further 4 pages of thread and the OP's shocking updates! Ignore me...

JessieMcJessie · 02/01/2015 06:21

You say she has 20 years' experience, so she can't be a young woman. It must be quite tough living in another family's home when you are in your thirties/forties and single. Not that that excuses theft of course, or is really relevant to your question OP, it just occurred to me really.

Tattiebogle · 02/01/2015 04:46

Hannah this is an old thread with an update a few pages back. The nanny was prosecuted for her antics and the family now have different arrangements in place for the kids.

Hannah5pillars · 02/01/2015 00:06

I have worked as a nanny previously and have heard many horror stories over the years. Most importantly you need to tell her, reinforce What you expect from her as an employee. You need to show her that you are boss. Take back the credit card, give control and explain the roles/ jobs that are in her contract. You should have a disciplinary cause in the contract. Theft is not acceptable and should result in firing, but talk to her and see if there was a reason for the change in her behaviour?! Personally though if you paid me that wage , I would go above and beyond the call of duty to assist and help you!!! She is taking the piss!!!!

MiscellaneousAssortment · 02/01/2015 00:00

Soooooo slowly Dandy

Another one who's glad she got revealed for what she really is, and sad that your trust could be so exploited and taken advantage of.

DandyHighwayman · 29/12/2014 14:59

Skiing my goodness, the mills of justice ground slowly, to paraphrase Longfellow. So glad you have finally achieved justice and closure.
Best wishes.

wewishyou · 29/12/2014 14:43

Op, you're so nice. And you had such a hard time here when you first posted here.

Did she work for millionaires before you? She must have some mental issues like kleptomania..

It makes me upset that she tried to blame you for her depression.. You didn't create her problems when you brought her to the tribunal, she created her problems when she acted like she did,

Purplepumpkins · 28/12/2014 19:29

I had no idea this thread was soo old!! I reread the other posts and op I'm so sorry what a horrible abusd of trust!

Also shouldn't be surprised but am shocked at how nasty some posters have been!!!

skiingnomore · 28/12/2014 19:04

purplepumpkins I havent don't worry. You can see thats at times my emotions have run away with me and Im sure you can understand why .

WeeFeeKings we didn't replace her. Children were both at senior school. DH started contracting and has much more flexibility and I now have a housekeeper who comes in every day for a few hours and so we get by.
But thank you for asking.

The trust issue is the hard bit but also well recognised by the criminal justice system too.

I truly hope she manages to overcome her depression and move on. We have.

Purplepumpkins · 28/12/2014 18:59

I'm sorry you have had such a terrible experience. However please don't tar us all with the same brush!!! Most nannies are hardworking and honest and it's not fair to tar us all!!!

WeeFreeKings · 28/12/2014 18:52

Thanks so much for the update skiing. It must have been very upsetting for you for it to have dragged on for so long. You didn't want it to be true but to have a valued nanny take advantage of you for 5 years (no matter how much you might have been able to afford it - posters envious of your circumstances should still have felt empathy for being betrayed) must have been devastating. I'm glad it's all behind you. How did you go about replacing her childcare wise? It must have been difficult to trust someone again. Did you end up employing someone off this thread? Grin

notapizzaeater · 28/12/2014 18:37

Such a sad situation for you, you had your trust exploited.

skiingnomore · 28/12/2014 18:34

Mary Lou 62 don't worry I don't. She saw an opportunity and she exploited it. She knew we could afford it and she thought I wouldn't notice. She was right . I didn't for a very long time.

I said in my statement to the police she was the most professional nanny I ever employed. I was delighted when she came to work for us and she described the job as all her Christmases come at once. It was a perfect arrangement for her and us.

At times I truly cannot believe how it ended up. Im a solicitor in RL and most things don't shock me but this did. How she could have the audacity and think she would get away with it. At court her solicitor said it had ruined her life and that she had attempted suicide. For that I am truly sorry and actually for one brief moment I even considered calling the Court office and paying her fine for her........that sums up the person I am.

BUT then I think that she has never apologised to my children or sent them back the £30. She stole their Christmas presents and then in her mitigation statement said that she was an excellent nanny and that my children adored her............I tell you what..........they don't now. At 12 and 10 they understood right and wrong and she tried to use them to escape punishment. DISGRACEFUL.

Marylou62 · 28/12/2014 18:22

I wasn't on MN 2 years ago OP, but have just read all of this...I really feel for you OP and think you have had a terrible time...but PLEASE don't tar all us nannies with the same brush...I can assure you that I have never stolen a thing from my bosses...and I have been a nanny for 30 years or so.....,You have just been unlucky. I am sorry this has happened to you.

mrscumberbatch · 28/12/2014 15:47

Ooft... And to think you might not have spotted it if it hasn't been for the blinking Hoover bags!

Im sure you're glad it's over OP, such a shame for you and your children.

VivaLeBeaver · 28/12/2014 15:29

I used to work for a company where my manager did this with a company credit card. Bought all his clothes, car payments, bills, food shopping, etc. he went to prison for it. Came out and is now finance director for a county council.

IDontDoIroning · 28/12/2014 15:23

I remember this - good for you.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/12/2014 15:17

I'm almost in awe of her cheekiness - maybe she thought it was a perk of her job Hmm

Glad finally sorted :)

Re reading thread and amazing how many messages are deleted - wonder why

skiingnomore · 28/12/2014 15:17

Good point Springalong. It was 18 months before they charged her and 12 months from first court date to trial.

I had to complain to the CPS on three occasions to get it moving. They are just so so overworked.

The bottom line is nobody died so in the scheme of things it wasn't top of the priority list but it was in the public interest that she was prosecuted.

All along she pleaded not guilty . For such a gross breach of trust she still didn't think she had done anything wrong until she was convicted and then her mitigation was full of ' deeply ashameds ; etc.

Her Ofsted registration needed to be revoked if nothing else.

Andharry i made a complaint to the police after I discovered she had stolen from the children. I could almost stomach the fact she had thought we were fame game but to spend your charges Amazon Christmas vouchers on your own account one day when they were at school..........

GraysAnalogy · 28/12/2014 15:04

If she wasn't turning up to cases and stuff that can prolong it can't it?

My case of quite a simple case of assault (I was the assaulted) took 2 years.

springalong · 28/12/2014 15:04

the right result but why on earth would it take police 2 1/2 years investigation. I was an internal auditor and had to investigate fraud on several occasions to a very high standard of evidence. To document fraud of £4k should not take that long!

clam · 28/12/2014 14:45

Bloody Hell, skiing! What a nightmare.

On a side issue, it really annoys me how posters pile in on a thread where they perceive the OP to be wealthy, and think it's open season to have a go.

Glad it's resolved now, although it must have taken its toll over such a long period.

Hope 2015 is good for you. Flowers

AndHarry · 28/12/2014 14:39

Another one who posted when the thread was started, under a previous name.

I'm glad it's over and hopefully done with OP. Being very nosey, when did you decide to call the police?

Namechangeyetagaintohide · 28/12/2014 14:18

Glad she got what she deserved.
