yay! had my WRV today - all out of the way for another year - though i'm over-due an ofsted inspection visit so need to keep on top of everything and work on todays recommendations

one thing i had wrong[ish] was my parents poster has the wrong number for ofsted so need to order a new one - apparently the photo on poster hasn't changed so i may well of got a new one through and not changed it due to this.

greenbananas - that is all helpful - thanks, yep i've found Bromley Childminders site really helpful and have adapted lots of their policies for my setting.

shoshe - ah i can understand your need for those policies with where you were based.

i understand i have to do all this stuff but i bloody hate this side of the job - it takes so much time.

I know that NCMA have some good templates if you want to adapt them to your own setting.

greenbananas · 14/08/2010 21:39

Hello... I hope I'm not speaking out of turn as I'm not a childminder (and clearly most of you are) but am a playworker and some years ago I wrote a few policies for after school / holiday clubs.

Behaviour policies are really important when there is more than one person responsible for discipline. That perhaps doesn't apply to childminders but I think that as a parent I would find a behaviour policy quite a useful statement of ethos.

Inclusion can be a big issue in larger settings. It wouldn't hurt to 'prove' you have thought seriously about equality and inclusion by being able to produce a policy. Also, what about a separate bullying policy?

Just wondering, but are there any 'template' policies that childminders use? It would save a lot of time...

UNDER 5?S IN OTHER SETTINGS

A child is counted as an under 5 by Ofsted until they are in full time education i.e. at school for 10 sessions a week.

A child who is at pre school is a under 5 and if they are with a childminder before and after pre school, and require a fulltime space during the holidays they therefore are taking a childminders full time space. As such you are required to pay retainer fee for the time that they are at preschool, as the childminder cannot then fill the part time that they are at pre school.

Vintage, I have a terrorist Threat, and a National Emergency was told I had to as I lived on a Military base!

LesbianMummy1 · 14/08/2010 21:01

I deal with 3 schools 1 pre-school and a nursery. If you are caring for children who attend reception year at school or pre-schools and nurseries don't forget to record any discussions you have to link in with eyfs

MUM2BLESS · 14/08/2010 20:58

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for your help everyone just printing off my policies and procedures, took days to do them. Made easier because of you lovley people Grin

MUM2BLESS · 14/08/2010 17:16

Thank you once again, much appreciated. I will also apply this to nursery attendance for a few hours.

Do most childminders only deal with one pre school or one school? One of the little ones in my setting is going to another pre school next year that I will not be doing.

I think its helpful to have this in my polciy anyway.

LesbianMummy1 · 14/08/2010 15:51

Whilst children attend an alternative setting e.g. Pre-school sessions, I am unable to take on further children to fill those hours. I therefore am unable to reduce my fees for this period. I am however happy to be on call for your child for emergency situations e.g. pre-school closures or inset days. When children attend school full time they are no longer counted in my under 5's ratio so I do not charge for hours they attend school.

MUM2BLESS · 14/08/2010 10:32

Thanks for that information

LesbianMumm1 thanks for that. Whilst I am writing, I started a thread about children in other settings? No one has replied as yet.

What wording could I include in this? ie minded children moving to pre school or nursery. I may have to take them, this info is just in case. Any advice?

Thanks again

MUM2BLESS · 13/08/2010 22:17

A policies policy Grin

I am doing my policies and procedures at present. In my emergency evauc policy I have included fire, flood and gas leak.

Who deals with gas leaks? the gas board? excuse me for asking what seems like a silly question. I suppose they have an emergency call out person ?

vInTaGeVioLeT · 13/08/2010 21:47

I was assessed the other day and the assessor mentioned a policy for gas leak.Hmm
