Stupid worry but where did your waters break ????

I gave birth to mine whole I think. They didn't break that's for sure and something very much like a water balloon came out whole a short time before Lottie appeared.

I do feel sorry for whoever had to mop it up!

Mine were broken as part of the induction. They asked me to walk around to try to get things going so I put on a huge maternity pad, got dressed and DH and I walked around and ended up in the Starbucks next to the hospital. It was fine until I got up to leave and there was a huge gush of water! No one in Starbucks even looked. I guess they've probably seen it a hundred times.

On the toilet, in the kitchen at my sister's house, in bed, and in the delivery suite.

waters had to be broken with the crochet hook thing at some point during labour - was in and out of my epidural haze so don't really remember, I do remember feeling like I had wet myself though.

Mine went whilst in hospital with high BP. I was sitting up in bed doing a crossword at 3.30am when I suddenly felt this flow of liquid. I was wearing a maternity pad at the request of the midwives so I went to the toilet and changed it. It was pinkish tinged clear fluid. I remember think it was probably my waters, which was quickly confirmed when I sneezed and a little gush came out!

Labour started 4 or 5 hours later. I can't remember the hind waters flooding out, but I had had diamorphine so probably just didn't notice ... or didn't care!

Mine were broken during labour as part of induction process. They couldn't break them to start with as DD's head was in way. Poor little thing was born with little marks and scratches on her head from the attempts.

Mine burst over the midwife as she delivered my son, he was born in his bag and they ruptured when he came out. I was standing up almost, midwife was under me... whooshhh

With dd they also broke just as she was being delivered, only coating my Dh's shoes...

fairly dull me, in bed as I was nodding off. It was a bit of a gush though! dwindled to a tricke afterwards with gushes every now and again. My friend's waters broke in Sainsbury;s! she didn't get any free food though, grrr!

Mine broke just as i was falling asleep in bed. I was fully clothed as i had the flu and was to cold and knackered to get undressed.

Apparently if they break when you are in M&S you get lots and lots of freebies - oooohhhh I am going to spend most of November in the M&S cafe in Bromley if anyone would like to jin me

Mine broke in the middle of the night and it was so unlike the stereo-type shopping trip tv drama gush that it took me ages to work out what was happening. It was just a trickle, couldn't work out if it was pee or just some rather watery (god I hate this word) discharge. Eventually it dawned on me...what really took me by surpise - but then seemed logical - is that it keeps on trickling - at quite a rate - but I believe your body/the baby carries on producing it. DD wasn't born for another 3 days....I spent all my time running round (with mega-size sanitary towel) trying everything I possibly could to avoid induction...

Mine did break while out shopping at 38 weeks in the carpark!!! drove myself home sat on plastic bag, having contractions while filtering in off a slip road. DS obviously knew we had just bought the carseat and were ready for him to appear!

You are right boy and girl. The baby still gets oxygen from the pulsating cord but the membranes are torn away fron the face as soon as the baby is born. It means that the baby is more cushioned at delivery when born in the sack.

Mears or someone else would probably know, but my friend said that as long as the cord is still pulsating regularly the baby still gets oxygen via the placenta. But she didn't delay opening the bag once the baby was out completely, as she didn't want to risk the placenta shutting down before the baby was breathing. And as for luck, well her older one is incredibly good not only academically and in sports, but in looks and personality too!

boyandgirl, according to superstition its supposed to be lucky if the baby is born with the "caul" intact, I think that's how it's spelt. Or so my mother told me, yes she was born in hers.
I wonder aboutthe baby breathing or does it still get enough oxygen from the umbilical cord?

In bed, but only a little, the rest in the hospital. Second time with a big knitting needle in hospital, or whatever it is they use!

I have a friend whose waters never broke - both times her children were born 'in the bag'. She wouldn't let the midwives break the bag until the child was completely out. Weird.

Isn't it interesting that for all we worry about it, there are very few truely embarassing 'waters breaking' stories here.

In both labours I only had a show and then a minor trickle in the early stages. The main gush was in hospital on both occasions. The most spectacular was with DD during an internal examination by a huge doctor with shovel like hands. He told me that I wasn't in labour, despite doing the internal mid-contraction and when he withdrew his hand he got the full force of my waters and all the gunk that went with them - oh boy did he deserve it!!! He just held his hand up and looked at the midwife with a pathetic "yuk" expression on his face. Served him bloody well right! He still insisted that I was not in labour and gave me a sleeping tablet and paracetamol then sent me up to the ward where I was dragged out of the bath 30 minutes later in transition. DD was born 45 minutes later.

A trickle, in Brixton High St. Not noticable, though, and continued to trickle for the next 24 hours. In fact we went out for dinner that night as we thought that it would be the last time in ages we'd manage it! So, no embarrassment - and more evidence that most of us escape without starring in our own sitcom!

Ha, ha mothernature - similar story here, I left it a bit late to get to hosp with ds and m/w decided to call ambulance. Waters went with a huge gush all over the floor of ambulance, everyone sliding during scary cross-London dash. V. embarrassing, but really I was so far gone in labour I didn't care. More embarrassed remembering the noise I made....

Spookily, when I woke on Oct 24 last year - ds's due date - I said, 'Come on baby -it's your birthday' - and no kidding - seconds later my waters broke and I had a show. Weird, huh?!
I did get very leaky again when I got out of the car at hospital and had to rush to the loos and rescue dry pair of pants and trousers from change bag!

Mine broke in bed with DD. i woke up a second before the pop and managed to fling the duvet off in time. When I telephoned the delivery unit they asked how I knew. As I explained it was bl*y Niagara Falls in our bedroom.

Second time in the labour room just before DS shot out.
