Hello

I really like the name Marlow for a boy. What do you think?

I'm worried that it sounds too much like Marlon which i don't like.

Also how would you spell it - Marlow, Marloe, Marlo etc?

And what could it be shortened to if anything?

Thankyou

I personally dont like the name, but if you really like it, IMO spelt Marlow is best.

christmas carole??

blueshoes · 11/07/2010 22:39

Why?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 11/07/2010 22:27

I love Marlow (easiest to spell) or Marlowe (famously gay and stabbed playwright/poet) - think it's lovely. Everyone has heard it (albeit in different context) and can have a good crack at spelling it, nice sound etc.

Fimbo · 11/07/2010 22:24

I know one - a girl - spelt Marlowe.

CakeandRoses · 11/07/2010 22:12

Hmmm, it's not the type of name I'd usually go for as it does sound a little bit made-up/surnamey/place-namey but because I'm a fan of The Wire and there's a great character called Marlo Stanfield on it, I'm actually liking it

domesticslattern · 11/07/2010 21:46

I know one.
It's a hard name to carry off in the playground TBH.

GladioliBuckets · 11/07/2010 21:11

I would spell it Marlowe like the writers Christopher and Philip.

CoupleofKooks · 11/07/2010 20:26

i like it

cece · 11/07/2010 20:25

Not my cup of tea at all.

Call the poor thing John if you you want to be different.

dublinmom · 11/07/2010 20:22

I like it as Marlowe.

There was an American singer/actrees called Marlo (so could be mistaken for a girl)

Rockbird · 11/07/2010 20:19

Ridiculous, sorry. There are about a squillion better names out there.

mathanxiety · 10/07/2010 18:19

I like it a lot, spelled Marlow.

pranma · 10/07/2010 18:12

Milo is nicer I think

30andMerkin · 10/07/2010 14:00

Um, I really like it.

You could add an e, as per the poet/playwright. Poncy, but original

polkadottytotty · 10/07/2010 13:57

I didn't know it was a town.

the town is very nice. the name is not.

Lovely village.

I like names that end in O but your are combining two trends here with a place name and a name ending in O. That is going to date massively. JMO

If you care about this, how about choosing a more classic name with the same feel.

Arnaud
Milo
Roscoe

SandyBits · 10/07/2010 09:02

Really, really don't like it. Sorry.
