Dilys.

Ivy is okay.

Really dislike Alice and Olive.

MilkNoSugarPlease · 19/07/2010 08:34

Ivy is gorgeous

REALLY not keen on the others

proudfoot · 19/07/2010 01:17

I would go for lovely classic Alice. Ivy is also nice.

runningrach · 19/07/2010 00:41

Dilys was my grandmother's name, her parents were Welsh and I love the name. It's unusual these days. Thinking about it for my own baby but not sure if that would upset the other parents to name after one grandparent.

Alice is nice but fairly common, not keen on Ivy and Olive, too many Olive's about at the moment and the v sounds sounds harsh to me (not keen on other V names either!).

russiandolly · 17/07/2010 19:36

I really love Ivy - I suggested it to my OH but was he was not keen. But I'd happily choose it.

Olive is also lovely - another suggestion of mine rebuffed!

Not keen on Dilys - sounds a little 'old" and Alice is sweet - classic and timeless but Ivy to me is a little different.

zenoushka · 17/07/2010 19:15

Carys is really pretty too.

hmberry · 17/07/2010 19:03

Alice is gorgeous
olive really dislike sorru
ivy ok
dilys no

TeaBaggy · 17/07/2010 18:20

I cant believe so many people dont like Dilys...very disappointing...just because a name has welsh origins doesnt mean you cant use it unless you live there!

Alice is way too popular atm for me personally

Ivy is classic..and who cares about 'old lady' names...the names that are popular now are the 'old lady' names of the next generation!

Olive is ok i guess

zenoushka · 17/07/2010 16:01

Alice is lovely.

addie81 · 10/07/2010 21:57

Alice by miles!

Kathleen123 · 08/07/2010 14:39

Alice

hester · 07/07/2010 21:31

I love Dilys. Also rather like Olive.
Alice and Ivy - nothing wrong with them, but don't do much for me.

Chynah · 07/07/2010 21:31

Ivy, Alice, Olive OK but Alice & Olive are so popular that there will be about 3 in her year at school.

Dilys - WHY would anyone want to do that to a child !?

rocketupbum · 07/07/2010 21:30

I like them all!! I love Dilys but we are not directly welsh and were not brave enough to have it as first name (DD has it as middle name, which she will prob never forgive us for!)

mybootsaremuddy · 07/07/2010 21:26

In order of preference:

Alice

Olive
Ivy
Dilys

Dilys Price?? ...no...

diggingintheribs · 07/07/2010 20:45

Alice is my favourite

Olive - makes me think of Olive Oil and gawkyness

Ivy is ok but old lady and not in a cool way like some others (like Elsie)

Dilys - no - will always be Normans Mam in Fireman Sam and thats not a good thing!!! Although I will caveat that if you are in Wales tha association must not be so strong

foreverastudent · 07/07/2010 20:37

ivy -dont know why people say 'old lady' when old lady names are so popular at the moment

BrigitteBardot · 07/07/2010 19:49

Alice or Olive.

janeite · 07/07/2010 19:47

Alice Alice Alice Alice

Ivy is just about okay. Olive and Dilys are ugly old lady names imho (I like old lady names but there seems to be a trend towards the hard-sounding ones now, which I don't like, sorry).

flopsy1974 · 07/07/2010 19:45

Alice is lovely. Others are too old lady for me.

PosieParker · 07/07/2010 18:22

OLIVE
OLIVE
OLIVE

(football chanting style!)

I love that name much nicer than Olivia (because it's very common).

Ivy reminds me of that awful woman from Coronation Street, and poison, Alice is a classically lovely name and Dilys is very sweet.

CuppaPimmsJanice · 07/07/2010 18:19

Ivy - Sweet name if you can ignore the old woman-ness and poison associations

Alice - Quite prim and head girlish.

Olive - prefer Olave, like Lady Baden Powell

Dilys - Norman Price's scatty mum in Fireman Sam. Can't believe nobody has mentioned this yet!

skyeplusbump · 07/07/2010 18:14

i love, love, love, ivy, ours would have been ivy this time around, but its a boy, so not sure it would suit!!!
