Hi All,

DH would really like to name our DD after his Grandmother Daphne.

I think the name is really sweet, and particularly like it with the middle name Ophelia (off-e-le-ah) but wanted your thoughts....

do you think it is TOO old fashioned?
Does it make you think of scooby doo?
Are there any nicknames you can think off?
Do you think she would get bullied at school?

Thanks in advance

Sorry, there's a whiff of the "Hinge and Bracket"

clemetteattlee haha - i guess you are in the mid-lands? i was born in Nottingham but now in the south so not much of an accent down here... although a few family members would pronounce it 'Daf-neh'

Littlefish LOL-ing at the body parts... my surname is actually STITT.... so now totally off the idea of Ophelia for a name.... thank god you pointed that out, hahahahahahaha!!! i can not believe i missed it!!!!

P.S. I hate my surname, no girls names go with Stitt!!!!!

I think that both together are a bit much.

Please can you re-assure me that your surname isn't the name of a body part - as in

O-feel-ya Bottom/Legs/Head/Tits

I agree that Daphne Aureleia sounds better. I too think that having ph in the first and middle names stops it flowing well.

Daphne makes me think of Neighbours, but perhaps I am showing my age.
I can't see it "suiting" a baby or little girl. How is the accent local to you - around here Daphne would become Daf-neh?

LadyStitt · 05/07/2010 13:25

LetThereBeRock That was my original thoughts too when DH first suggested it!

It seems to have grown on me now, the only thing i don't like are the obvious nicknames like Daff or Daffs.... I was thinking of encouraging the nicknames Effy or just Fe to stop any 'Daff'!

I love Ophelia but I really hate Daphne. It does make me think of Scooby Doo and makes me think of 'dafty' or Daffy duck.

I might use it as a middle name but not as a first.

Just looked it up and thought I should correct myself - Cecilia is the original spelling

I've considered Daphne - I think its really cute...and for some reason I love the fact that she might end up with the nick name Daffy -ever cuter!

Gorgeous

I really like the name Daphne and think it deserves a revival. I quite like Ophelia.

I did notice the repeated "ph" sound with both names put together, though. How about Daphne Aurelia, or Daphne Cecelia?
