Hi All,

DH would really like to name our DD after his Grandmother Daphne.

I think the name is really sweet, and particularly like it with the middle name Ophelia (off-e-le-ah) but wanted your thoughts....

do you think it is TOO old fashioned?
Does it make you think of scooby doo?
Are there any nicknames you can think off?
Do you think she would get bullied at school?

Thanks in advance

I love the family connection, but personally I dont like the name Daphne as a first name. Middle name is okay.

MrsFogi · 07/07/2010 23:24

I started a thread about Daphne before dd2 was born - I still regret not calling her Daphne (I love it).

Just13moreyearstogo · 07/07/2010 23:20

Daphne Rebecca gets my vote.

LadyStitt · 07/07/2010 23:04

Thanks for all of your opinions guys. Really helpful.

Sometimes I love it, other times I think its too old fashioned.... damn hormones!!

Think I will go for Daphne Rebecca or Daphne Cecelia.

Thanks again everyone

`Lovely, gorgeous to me. If you like it, go for it!

flibbertigibbert · 07/07/2010 15:32

I much prefer

Daphne Amelia

or Daphne Cecelia.

Ophelia is such an annoying character and the name makes me think 'I'll feel ya'

littleearthquakes · 07/07/2010 14:26

Daphne, not keen...Ophelia could never use due to negative literary connotations

diddl · 06/07/2010 08:11

Daphne is horrible imo.
Really old lady.

solo · 06/07/2010 00:46

I don't personally like Daphne(knew an adult one as child and she looked a lot like Olive of On The Buses!), but of all the ideas you've been given here, I think Daphne Rose is the best. IMO.

coffeefestival · 06/07/2010 00:38

Oops, hadn't thought of the du Maurier "Rebecca" connection!

mathanxiety · 06/07/2010 00:33

I love Daphne. I think it's a really feminine name without being frilly, and also a classic. I love Daphne Miranda from CoffeeFestival's list.

Leslaki · 05/07/2010 22:24

Sorry - I'm from Scotland and daphne still makes me think of Daphne Broon!!!sorry

MollieO · 05/07/2010 22:18

If you include Rebecca people will assume you named your dd after Daphne du Maurier!

Littlefish · 05/07/2010 22:13

Oh, use Rebecca if it's your middle name too. A lovely family connection .

loobylu3 · 05/07/2010 21:37

I love Daphne. Not keen on Ophelia and I don't think the two flow well. A 3 syllable middle name works well.

LadyStitt · 05/07/2010 20:33

Thank you boh so much littlefish and coffeefestival

Rebecca is also my middle name, I think it sounds lovely with Daphne. I also really like Emma and Amelia.

Having said what I did about 2 or 1 syllable names as the middle name, from coffeefestival's list I really like

Daphne Rebecca Stitt

coffeefestival · 05/07/2010 17:14

Daphne Carina Stitt
Daphne Laura Stitt
Daphne Elizabeth Stitt
Daphne Isabelle Stitt
Daphne Victoria Stitt
Daphne Jennifer Stitt
Daphne Rebecca Stitt
Daphne Miranda Stitt
Daphne Leonie Stitt
Daphne Cathryn Stitt
Daphne Alexandra Stitt
Daphne Belinda Stitt

Daphne Amelia Stitt
Daphne Josephine Stitt
Daphne Jane Stitt

Littlefish · 05/07/2010 16:30

Ha ha ha. I hadn't realised that Stitt was your surname. Ophelia would have been a disaster!

I think that a one or two syllable middle name would work better than a three syllable. Sort of winds down gently to your surname, rather than landing with a thump, if you see what I mean.

I also think you need to avoid any middle names ending in s as it makes it quite clunky when combined with your surname.

Daphne Faith
Daphne Hope
Daphne Claire
Daphne Emma

LadyStitt · 05/07/2010 14:46

Maybe :

Daphne Lily
Daphne Rose
Daphne Annabelle
Daphne Lola
Daphne Felicity
Daphne Amelia

DH really loves Daphne tho....

Daphne is lovely, as is Cecelia, not so keen on Ophelia.

OrmRenewed · 05/07/2010 14:33

I like Daphne but maybe as a second name. Not Ophelia though - a bit too much.

5DollarShake · 05/07/2010 14:31

I have to admit that Daphne is really not to my taste, and 'Daffy' definitely puts me even further off!!

Ophelia is lovely though.

Blu · 05/07/2010 14:04

Too much 'ph' if you use both.

Aims80 · 05/07/2010 14:01

Ah I think Daphne is beautiful!
