???
How many do you know?
Do you think it'll be/it is common in both senses of the word??

Didn't Sara Cox call one of her kids Lola? To me it sounds like an ok nickname but chavvy as a proper name

Ineedsomesleep · 05/08/2010 12:51

Yes.

Kathleen123 · 05/08/2010 10:48

I personally wouldnt use it because of Kinks song.

I don't know any Lola's. I live in North Wales.

Nah I ain't common Cuppa!

But then I'm a Laura originally and that is a superb name!

There are no Lola's that I know of in my area. It's a lovely name!

LilMagill · 03/08/2010 15:50

Yes SH it's a Spanish nickname for Dolores. I think it is quite common in both senses...sorry... or rather, ime little Lolas always seem to come from quite well-to-do families but I can't imagine a Lady Lola or Queen Lola, it doesn't sound like a complete name on its own. & it def. makes me think of showgirl, transvestite etc. Think Madonna's dd Lourdes is called Lola. You could use it for Laura/Lauren/Laurel maybe?

emptyshell · 03/08/2010 15:39

Lots of them hitting nurseries this year - guessing because of Charlie and...

Seems to be the new Chloe round here in terms of numbers of them in a class (not meant negatively in any way).

LimaCharlie · 02/08/2010 18:23

Gaining in popularity but most certainly not common

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 02/08/2010 18:06

i LOVE Lola, shame it sounds awful with our surname, we also vetoed Lyra, Lyla and Luca for the same reason

SirBoobAlot · 01/08/2010 21:07

I know several, the most recently being my youngest cousin who is a few months old.

ComeWhineWithMe · 01/08/2010 20:49

My DD is a Lola and we don't own a stitch of Burberry .

SkintHeather · 01/08/2010 20:46

I worked with a Lola who was a few years older than me. Isn't it a Spanish name?

MrsY · 01/08/2010 14:09

I do like the name, but in various songs, Lola is either a transvestite, a prostitute or a showgirl.

Agree it's a nice nn.

Lonnie · 01/08/2010 13:59

I know 5 under 10 yes its popular and yes I too mentally hear "her name was Lola" when I hear the name

cowboylover · 31/07/2010 16:19

I love the name Lola but my DH name is Charlie so would that just be wrong for any future DD's?

WaftyCrank · 31/07/2010 16:12

I have a Lola. She's 16 months and the only Lola that I know of.

9 weeks pregnant with DC3 who will be Lorelei if it's a girl.

seenyertoeslately · 31/07/2010 15:29

Sounds like a joke name to me because of the Kinks song, but guess that is my age .....

She walked up to me and she asked me to dance
I asked her her name and in a dark brown voice she said
"Lola .. L ...O ...L..A ...Lola .."

DinahRod · 31/07/2010 15:11

The slang meaning would put me off, although how widely used/understood it is, I don;t know.

plonker · 31/07/2010 15:05

I can't possibly comment ...I don't know her ...

rachel234 · 31/07/2010 14:42

I don't know any. Really don't like it, reminds me of Lolita and the red light district....

Ewe · 31/07/2010 13:19

I know of a few Lola's, all under 5. I do think it's a bit common!

MummyLovesSadie · 31/07/2010 13:15

My dh wanted Lola for my dd but I won! Doesn't it mean 'sorrows'?

BertieBasset · 31/07/2010 13:01

I love the name but also know 3 LO's called Lola. My DH veto'ed it on the basis of the kinks song.

zenoushka · 31/07/2010 12:41

I have come across quite a few Lola's under the age of 8. Don't particularly like the name though.

izzybiz · 03/07/2010 11:20
