IMO it seems a more middle class name although also used by people of all classes.

LadyThompson · 30/07/2010 19:26

Oh no, not another one of these threads...stop being so daft, insecure and offensive. And call your child what you want to.

Cakey0207 · 30/07/2010 17:34

Love it!

Colliecross · 30/07/2010 12:17

Annabel is timeless and very pretty IMO
I only know one, child of paediatrician.

beccagrace2 · 30/07/2010 06:28

i live near cheltenham and it's an average name here, so chav,(in popularity, not uncommon but not as popular as isobel)
The doll has ruined the name in my mind a bit tho. annie is a nice nn.

Doodles89 · 30/07/2010 01:27

My name is Annabelle ..and Ive never been told its chav.. nor have I met anyone with the same name... My nickname is Annie always has been however I also get nicknamed Belle by my boss.

jellybeans · 03/07/2010 15:33

No.

usualsuspect · 03/07/2010 14:50

I think its a bit pony club

Helokitty · 03/07/2010 14:45

No.
I'd say a name is only 'Chav' (hate that description) if it is only used by people you would describe as 'Chav'. Likewise, I'd say a name is only 'posh' if it is only used by people that are 'posh'.

Annabel, I would say is a name used by all types of people - posh, and not so posh. So I would describe it as 'classless' or 'multi-class'.

I know one child called Annabel, so I think it is fairly popular, but not overly so.

Trucker · 02/07/2010 20:25

No, I meant the OP.

You thought Lucinda was chav too I think. I wonder what circles you're moving in.

Well then my daughter has a 'chav' name and my son a 'posh' name !!

I'm not English and find the whole labelling of names so ridiculous!!!

Kathleen123 · 02/07/2010 14:19

It is certainly not a chav name. I think it's a beautiful name.

emmyloo2 · 02/07/2010 13:52

I think it is popular but not chav. I much prefer Isabelle myself but Annabel is a perfectly lovely name.

I only think of chav names as those ones which are made up or try and use an "original" type of spelling. Oh yeah - also anything of the Jayden variety, but that is just me. Annabel certainly does not fall into that category.

Tasala · 02/07/2010 13:37

Overused/popular doesn't equal downmarket in my book. I think 'bel' names in general are getting very popular (Isabel, Bella).

I would have said that Annabel is one of those names where you cannot identify a person's class or background just from the name.

Hedwig3 · 02/07/2010 12:13

Not at all, underused as far as I can see!

Ds2 would have been called Annabel if he had been a girl. It is quite popular in our area but certainly not chav.

FranSanDisco · 02/07/2010 11:21

How the fuck can a name become chav . Chav is used to describe a behaviour/life style. Popular isn't chav fgs.

dannap · 02/07/2010 11:11

The only small Annabel I know of is the product of chav-like people but I think it's used by other types too.

It used to be quite posh but has become regular, therefore used by all types of people.

TheBossofMe · 02/07/2010 10:37

Very overused.

By posh people, wannabes and chavs equally.

coffeefestival · 02/07/2010 10:19

I like it.

georgieseale · 02/07/2010 10:06

not chavvy imo, i like it
