too old fashioned?

I fell in love with the name Margot a few months ago but as birth gets closer I am having doubts. Trouble is I have no other names and dh is being useless!

I don't really like girly names and like the fact that Margot is quite strong sounding. We have a rather unique surname it goes with. I was thinking of having Amelie as a middle name (I love this name but feel there are too many around) which I thought might soften it.

My husband isn't a great fan as they pronounce it with a hard T where he is from. But from previous experience he will agree with my choice once he's seen me give birth!

Any name we have should preferably be French (family history reasons).

So what do you think? And if you hate it what would you suggest?

Nobody hates it yet!

Middle names are family ones so take your point that they are not very fashionable but I can look past that as they won't be used very often.

Greta is a bit too german - with our surname it would be a bit too much!

I really like the silent T in Margot so would keep that spelling (ds also has a silent letter in his name so I guess I just like being awkward!!)

Margaux is an acceptable form of Margot that eliminates the T problem.

There's Greta too, as a form of Margaret..

Danielle is very 70s to me, and Erika also.

Love it, was on my (but sadly not DH's) shortlist. Could always call her Maggie as well, that would solve the hard T problem. Or spell it Margeaux but maybe that's too pretentious? Margot Amelie lovely as well.

Oh I meant those two as middle name options.

I'm feeling much better about the choice and will be putting it back at the top of my list! Thank you!!!

Now I just need to get dh on board....

I like Margot a lot. I think it's unusual but pretty. I prefer it to Danielle or Erika.

Thanks for feedback! Glad it's positive!

Dh is german and to be honest they make a hash out of ds's name too but he corrects them now!

Dh doesn't actually have a german accent so he naturally says it the English/French way so no conflict there!

What do you think of amelie as a middle name? The alternatives are famil names danielle or erika.

Margot is a lovely name!
where is your husband from??? I can't imagine many places where they'd give it a hard t? and if people do then just correct them, they'll soon stop

Yes you're right. The name becomes the person. There are a few names I irrationally dislike because of people I knew with them so it works the other way too!

I knew someone who spelled it without the T. But I suppose you need to keep it French?

TBH the name grows to fit...Sandra Bullock is an unlikely old-fashioned name but she has a cool and fun image.
