Probably the final combos. Which do you prefer?

So these are my final two name combinations, whittled down from dozens...though when I say "whittled down", you'll notice I've opted for 4 MNs That's the one thing that won't be changing, so please don't bother trying to convince me otherwise. Also, I'm dead set on the names themselves, I just want to know which works best when put together.

  1. Atticus Louis Caleb Tobias Somerset

  2. Asa Stanley Arthur Leopold Somerset

P.S: On their names alone, what do you think these people would be like as children and then adults? Be honest!

Of your options, option 1. Though I can't think of a decent short form of Atticus. Atty?

Personally though I would hate to have so many names and would have really hated it as a child (especially, dare I say, as a boy).

Why not stick to two middle names and allow him to choose some extra ones if he wants when he is older?

George Osborne was christened Gideon, but changed his name to George at 13.

I'd think carefully about any very unusual first names, such as Atticus. I like it, but may not be easy for your son to carry off the name.

I love the following names out of your choices:

Louis
Arthur

The others are fine, but personally wouldnt be my choice. I'm from a farming background and imagine my son would carry a name like Giles better than Atticus. Please dont let that bother you though. Out of the choices I like 1. best.

From the names I would assume your son to be well spoken boy who will be privately educated, followed by Oxford, and then a career as a banker, lawyer or politician.

  1. sounds better put together but Atticus is beter than Asa, so Atticus Stanley Arthur Leopold Somerset. Oh, and what violethill said, sorry.

Too many names. Like all of them except Stanley (Stanislas as someone suggested much better) and Leopold (Congo atrocities). Disadvantages of Stanley accentuated when placed with Arthur. So 1) if you're set on that many names.

I too thought Somerset was your surname. Sorry far too many names. Asa and Atticus are ok but I seriously do not know any man or boy over the age of 11 who wouldn't feel tremendous embarrassment at being called such a mouthful. Furthermore no teenager/adult would relish being called Leopold, Arthur or Stanley. Only do it if it is vital to inflict such names on an adult.
My friend's middle names included a Leopold and he still remembers the sniggers in church on his wedding day.

Really like Atticus. The one I know is sometimes called Atti or Addy but mostly goes by Atticus. Rolls off the tongue easily enough imo.

Asa sounds feminine to my ears too. I think she is the Norse Goddess of Love?

Way too many names in there. You are definitely crossing the line between being original and being poncey/show-offy

Caleb doesn't go in my opinion - and i'd lose Somerset.

Asa is an Old Testament name -- he was the third king of Judah, reigned for 30 or 40 years. It was a popular name among the Puritans. It also means 'healer' in Hebrew.

Was one of the actors from the film The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas named Asa something?

Asa is a scandinavian girls name.

Of the two, prefer Atticus (surprisingly DH really likes it) but again - why the 4 middle names? His initials will sound like a charity - AALTS? Atticus Tobias Somerset [Bloom] would be nice...

yes and there are plenty of people out there who HATE their average boring name, and plenty more who LOVE their unusual name

schroeder - Well, I grew up with a long name too and I loved it. I know of course that everyone differs, but the point is that in most day to day situations it will never come up, and if it does he doesn't have to use all of them.

Crikey I thought Somerset wast the last name too.
Honestly it begins to sound like a dog's name. I might have liked all sorts of fancy poncy names for my children if I hadn't known what it was like to grow up with just one unusual first name.

My dh has 1 extra and quite unusual middle name too and finds that mortifying.

Honestly it's not about stifling peoples's creativity or not allowing them to express their personality, but a real person has got to live with it for the rest of their lives.

Gosh I think 3 names (like my DS1) is a lot; five seems to be over the top to me.

Prefer Atticus. I don't see a problem with 2 or 3 middle names.

I think you should really have a hard think about how your choice of name/s will effect your child as they are growing up.

Can I ask why you need to give one child so many pretentious names?

Arthur Lois Bloom would be nice or Louis Stanley?

Please give more thought to the other odd names and the amount of names for the childs sake.

I prefer the hybrid to your original choices but for some things he won't be able to use one (unless he deed polls his name).

It's not necessairly a problem but 5 very long names means they might not fit on forms!

To be picky I'd say

Atticus Arthur Louis Tobias Somerset is more balanced!
