What one is least pretentious?

OH loves Ophelia (the only name he has ever come up with and likes)

I like Tabitha and Portia but getting worried that the former sounds like a cat due to unhelpful friends. I don't want pretentious names but I can't help what I like.

So do I please myself or please the masses and opt for a less posh name. What one would you choose?

Tabitha.

People will get past the cat connection, I think many have already as the name is heard more and more on children.

I met a Portia at the playground the other day. Even my incredibly posh grandmother thought it was a bit much. I really like Ophelia though.

Ophelia is the nicest name on your list. Not keen on the others.

Ophelia it is then...now for middle names!

My favourite of your choices is Ophelia

Tabitha does make me think of cats, I'm afraid. Portia sounds like a cross between a portion and a porter.

How about

Octavia
Aurelia
Cecelia
Penelope
Hermione

Ophelia is the nicest name from your list. Portia sounds incredibly posh and Tabitha is a cat's name.

luciemule · 23/06/2010 23:45

Tabitha nice
Portia - bit pretentious but only because of stereotypes
Ophelia - beautiful. My french friend's little girl is called Ophelie (off-el-ee) and she's such a cute little poppet.
I think Ophelia is pretty/sexy/mature/cute/cool

DilysPrice · 23/06/2010 23:34

Tabitha is nice, Portia is a tiny bit pretentious but OK, Ophelia is ill starred because of the evil bf who murders her father and the insanity and the drowning.

MrsSawdust · 23/06/2010 23:31

Please yourself, not the masses.

I love Ophelia.

seimum · 23/06/2010 23:26

I know a Tabitha, and she always gets called Tabs or Tabby.

I would prefer Ophelia (provided your surname is not Balls or similar).

Portia I associate with lawyers, (because of doing the Merchant of Venice at school)

ReneRusso · 23/06/2010 23:22

Tabitha is nice and not overly weird. Not sure about the others. Ophelia drowned in a river as I remember - not ideal.
