Would you only use Medi as a girl's name if she was born in September??? - Have seen a thread further down re: calling a girl Tuesday and people are saying no don't do it, and you could only call her that if born on a Tues etc. I have an Aunty June (true, born in June, but I'd never thought of that before) and know lots of 'Mai's not born in May. So would I only have a 1/12 chance of using this as a girl's name or would people not think of it like that do you think? - I love the name, but have never known any Medi's so would be interested in your thoughts thanks.

I love the boys names Owen and Ioan.

Welsh girls names, to me, it has to be Iola or Eleri.

amimagic · 24/06/2010 22:25

DD's middle name is Eira - snow - picked by DS. Very apt as she was born last November and it then snowed for the next two months!

I love the name Medi, although do tend to think that it should be for girls born in September, as Haf should be for summer, and Celyn for December etc..

Deemented · 24/06/2010 17:33

I love the name Mannon also Mari and Eleri too.

If DS had been a girl he probably would have been Erin Mari, but as it is he's Tate Aneurin

hellymelly · 23/06/2010 14:15

Anest was on my shortlist, that is a lovely name.

marialuisa · 23/06/2010 08:49

Lovely names on here, my cousin has just named her DD Anest and also has a Heledd and a Euros.

Boys in the family are: Euros, Huw, Osian, Dewi, Steffan, Iolo.

I like Sioned for a girl

hellymelly · 22/06/2010 22:24

Yes I'm in Pembs. Its lovely, I'm starting to remember some of my lost welsh which is great as dd1 is at a Welsh speaking primary. We intended to move back when we had dd1 but in the end Manon was 7m by the time we made the leap.

Am I right in thinking you're in Pembs hellymelly? I know a little Manon that started out life in London too, they're in Cardiff now. It's quite cool to have it pronounced the French way, makes me feel far more sophisticated than I am...

Medi Gwenith?

I love it when 2 names go together like that- I know a Haf Mwyn.

katechristie · 22/06/2010 22:03

Now am liking Gwawr Haf, I have known a Gwawr at school. But I don't think Medi Gwawr would go. I did like Medi Haf, but not too sure the meanings would go together. Medi Manon might not have quite the right ring to it either, but of course Manon is a super name But DH is liking Medi Fflur, so thanks helyg again.

altho' after todays budget, am not sure if little Medi will be on the way anytime soon

We have had the football Man oooon too. From DH's cousin who didn't like the name at all.But it really suits my tiny regal daughter. And although when we lived in London everyone pronounced it the French way,at least back in the land of our fathers its not unusual (haha accidental Tom Jones ref there).Very welsh speaking area here,so a lot of welsh names.Very nice to meet another Manon!

BessieBoots · 22/06/2010 21:22

Oh hellymelly, I didn't know you had a Manon! It's a great name, I love it. People seem to think I'm very sophisticated and cool until they meet me.

hellymelly · 22/06/2010 21:18

Have you never had that? What a relief. She gets it all the time apparently.I thought I'd doomed my dd to a life of salacious innuendo.

BessieBoots · 22/06/2010 17:31

BTW I was looking at another thread and saw that someone on here had a Summer Dawn- How cool would Gwawr Haf be..?

BessieBoots · 22/06/2010 17:29

Good God, what kind of parties does your friend go to? I've never had that... Though I have had "Manon The Moon!" and "man oooon" in manner of footballers...

I like the name Awst too (August in Welsh).

hellymelly · 22/06/2010 15:45

One drawback of Manon that I hadn't though of comes from my (adult )friend who whenever she says her name to a man in a bar or at a party gets "ha ha ha Man on top" as a response,or similar.

blossum · 22/06/2010 15:41

My grandfather was Brynley Rosser, thats a good bit of welsh for you...David is lovely but I'm biased cos thats my son's name, but he would have been Sian..

mejon · 22/06/2010 14:56

My cousin is Medi Wyn (born September). It's a lovely name. Liking Fflur too - DD's middle name was almost Fflur but with monoglot English DH and in-laws I thought it was perhaps too much of a mouthful so settled on G*** Haf instead (born August!).

helyg · 22/06/2010 14:04
BessieBoots · 22/06/2010 13:18

I think you should call a girl Manon. All the best people are called Manon.

Medi is lovely! I think I'd have a Sian if I ever had a girl.

katechristie · 22/06/2010 13:13

ooh, I love Medi Fflur helyg, that's pretty. Also love Llyr thanks. Sion and Wyn on the list already - similar taste in names!

helyg · 22/06/2010 12:51

Well my two boys are called Rhys Wyn and Siôn Euros. Other boys names that I liked were Steffan, Osian, Ifan, Cai and Llyr.

Medi Fflur is nice?

DD is Carys Angharad. If the boys had been girls they would have been Ffion Medi and Manon Fflur.

katechristie · 22/06/2010 12:44

thank you all . now for a middle name...
and possible names for a boy...

blossum · 22/06/2010 12:43

If you love it that's reason enough. I have heard it before and knew a Medi, its a super name, I love it, (being of welsh parenthood)
Other good Celtic ones are Angharad, Ceri or Cerys,Ceridwen and Rhiannon. Not sure all are spelt totally correctly but i've given it my best shot... In my experience.kids never like either the name you have given them or their second name anyway so just decide what you like,

flowerybeanbag · 22/06/2010 12:35

My niece has Medi for a middle name - she was born in September though.
