I am Irish/Scottish and hubbie is Muslim. Would love some name ideas that work for both cultures. Any ideas?

Pooh - Whichever name you intend to choose, talk about it with a native speaker of Arabic. Some names that sound good to Anglophone ears could have pronunciations or nicknames with unpleasant meanings in Arabic, which you wouldn't necessarily pick up.

For example, Zinnira or Zinia could easily become "Zina" in the UK, which you wouldn't want your daughter called.

My DS is Anwar which is gorgeous, means light. I love Merieme and Zahara for girls, Bilal or Zacariyya for boys. Would use any except merieme who is my SIL! And I think she might use Zacariyya for her DS when he arrives.

Muslim tradition says that everybody should have a name of Mohammad or one of his family (could be a middle name). Ali is one of those so there are likely to be several in the family - are you guessing how DH/his family feels about it or has he actually vetoed it?

My partner is a Muslim Egyptian, I'm an English Christian so have been having a big battle on whether to give our baby a muslim name, I don't want her to have one but have settled for Amira as her middle name. Here are some of the muslim names that I like:

Well i go away for a day and i come back to a hundred fab names! Thank you all so much ye have given me so many lovely suggestions
Cote any arabic name is fine am loving so many of these names! Particularly Safia and Reem but i think Safia goes better with my ds's names as they are both two sylable 5 letter names aswell! Not that thats a must like but really like that name... I like Aisha but dh says its an old lady name Love Ali for a boy but dh had a brother who died as as baby who was Ali so its his name to the family iykwim?
can i ask how do i pronounce Kheira and Shauayb?
Dh likes Ayoub and Yacob for boys names im a bit on them... Ds1 want Sportacus but we'v vetoed it

Zam Zam and Safia were on my list of names for DD who was born in Oman. I really wanted ZamZam but realised that, while it was fine in that country it really wouldn't sound too good in east London where it would be shortened to Zaaaaaaaaaaam. Safia went out of the window too when I thought about her name being shortened to Saffy and the connections with Ab Fab.
For boys I like Adil (Ardel) and Adaham.

An Arab friend named her DD "Leyal", which is apparently the plural of "Laila" and means (dark nights).
