I have a son named Musa. It is the Arabic version of Moses. It is a beautiful name and it really suits him. My youngest son is Yusuf (Joseph). I think sometimes the inspiration for a name comes as you get to know your baby. I have 2 friends who are Munira (light) and Madina (short for Madina al Munawwara (City of Lights, where the Prophet Muhammad pbuh was born)You can see the connection between Munira and Munawwara. They have the same root - Nur (light)

Masa - I would check this. "Almas" means "diamond". I think "masa" means something else.

Maymuna - You might like to know that "maymun" means "monkey" in Turkish. Written exactly like this, too.

There is also "Fuad" for a boy. Means "heart", I think.

I think most of those names work well in english too, that may not matter to you, but if you are a british convert (like me), you'll probably want a name that Gran and Grandpa can say and that translates well to the playground!

There is no scripture that deems that you must use an arabic name so you can call him/her a british name as long as the meaning is good. But if you are intent on using a name with religious importance then the Quran reads that 'Abdul (or Abder) Rahman' is the name favoured by Allah for a male.

Hi my hubby's name is Shohaib and pronounced "Show - hay - b " this is the name of a prophet and there are lots of variations of spelling and pronounciations not least because of the translation process between Arabic and English script. For a girl interesting but true - "Lucy" is also an arabic name! It is not common, but definitely used in Egypt. There is lots of crossover of the history books and characters between the Bible, Talmud and the Qu'ran if you are looking for a name that fits with different cultures. Eg; Ibrahim/Abraham, Ishmael, Mary/Maryam, Adam etc.

My friend has Zakira for a girl which is lovely. Zahra is a lovely girl's name and I also know of Hana.

people shouldnt make zinnira into nickname of zina cos that is really bad...
but that name is known in arabic its one of the early sahabiyat, so its okay 2 use, even tho the origin is roman (i think? cos this sahabia was roman, radhiyallahu anhaa)
