DP & I both really like the name & it sounds really good with our girl middle name & surname, but when looking on a few websites they said something we hadn't thought of, just wanted to know the 1st thing that comes into peoples heads when they hear the name to see if we need to change our minds. Thanks

First thing that came into mind was my dear departed cat.

Second was an image of a bright, friendly girl. Have known some Katies and two of them were pains, but the third one was lovely and it's her I think of

southeastastra · 12/06/2010 00:26

what katy did, being a nice middle class gurl

scottishmummy · 12/06/2010 00:19

plastic titted katie price.for that reason avoid

LadyCad · 12/06/2010 00:05

Katie is a little blonde girl.

Katie Price didn't occur to me until I read the rest of the thread.

muminthemiddle · 12/06/2010 00:05

Prefer Kate as it just seems more grown up. But then again I prefer Catherine, although Katie is a name in it's own right too.

thecoffeelady · 12/06/2010 00:03

My very beautiful and wonderful little cousin Katie whom I love and adore. she is vivacious, giving and an all round lovely person

I only think of Katie Price when someone says orange coloured whoremonger who isn't fit to raise a stick insect let alone 3 children

TreeTrunkThighs · 11/06/2010 23:47

Definitely not Katie Price! Had not occurred to me and dd1 has been around a while!

When we picked it I felt like it was a 'safe' option, but have never regretted it. She's the only Katie in her school and I'm sure is going to be a Kate (which I adore) in the next few years.

I may be biased but think of a gorgeous, happy, friendly girl

SoMuchToBits · 11/06/2010 23:40

Hmmm.... mostly Katie Hopkins (Apprentice not very nice woman) or What Katy did next?

But also feel Katie is a very twee shortening of Katherine/Katharine/Kathryn/Katharyn etc. I like the Katherine names, and feel that Kate or even Kath/Kathy is acceptable, but really dislike Katie/Katy. I would go for Katherine (or a variant of the spelling) and then use Katie/Katy as a shortened form, which would at least give you a choice.

chipmonkey · 11/06/2010 23:40

Katy Carr in What Katy Did

Sal321 · 11/06/2010 23:30

Katy Hill who presented Blue Peter in the late 90s. Really confused as to why she came to mind, but quite a wholesome image.

Elvisina · 11/06/2010 22:49

The name of the super bright, really lovely head girl at the school I teach. She's going to Oxford to study law!

lidofabiro · 11/06/2010 22:38

I did think of Katie Price but also of a few other Katies. I prefer it to Kate.

PosyPetrovaPauline · 11/06/2010 22:20

my best friend!

magnolia74 · 11/06/2010 22:19

my dd4 katie, fab name

ravenAK · 11/06/2010 22:16

I prefer it as a shortening for Katherine tbh, & even then I prefer Kate or Katy.

It's a bit nondescript & forgettable, sorry.

One of those names where there'll be a Katie B & a Katie W, say, in a class of 32, & they'll both be terribly nice & hardworking but you struggle to actually remember which is which when writing reports.

On the plus side, it's pretty, timeless, & if you went with it as a nn for Katherine, & dd didn't like it, she could be Kathy, Kitty, Kat etc etc etc...

bratnav · 11/06/2010 22:14

My DD2, but she is Caitlin shortened to Caity

GrimmaTheNome · 11/06/2010 22:11

I think of DDs wonderful nanny.

jpg is slightly wrong IIRC (and its about a 40 year old recollection to my mum singing, hasn't entered my head since till now!)

'K-k-k-Katie, bay-eautiful katy

I'll be waiting for you at the k-kitchen door

pogleswife · 11/06/2010 22:07

My lovely daughter who is Katie short for
Catriona

katiepotatie · 11/06/2010 22:04

Fabulousness - obviously

liberty30 · 11/06/2010 21:51

Well I certainly don't think of katie Price lol - infact the scary bint doesnt even suit that name !!
Katie is a classic , sweet , sassy name - a very good choice as it's ageless ie you get old dears called Katie , woman my age and todays babies . I was seriously considering it for my ds and choose something similar in style. Perfect - go for it .

ReshapeWhileDamp · 11/06/2010 21:49

Um, I think 'Ah, Katie. Nice name, I know at least five under 7'!

Katie Price doesn't really enter into it for me.

HurleySatOnMe · 11/06/2010 21:48

Hopkins I'm afraid. But only because she riles me so. I think Kate is lovely though, if I didn't have a single syllable surname my dd would have been Kate. I think it sounds more grown up as well, iyswim, I'm not sure Katie is a real grown ups name (apologies to all Katies)

foureleven · 11/06/2010 21:46

price

jpg · 11/06/2010 21:46

K K K Katie, beautiful Katie
You're the only g g g girl I adore

bibbitybobbityhat · 11/06/2010 21:46

Hopkins or that one who is engaged to Russell Brand.

I prefer Kate.
