Just HOW popular is Megan where you are?

...Will it be 2011's Ruby/ Evie etc.. (i.e. a lovely name I hadn't heard in donkey's years and then as soon as you go to a play group you're swamped by them)?

And is it nice??

I think its lovely. I think that it was more common a few years ago than it is now.

clemettethecoalitionbreaker · 12/06/2010 21:30

I have a Meg(an). She is five and we are in the Midlands. She was the only one in nursery (there wasn't another for the four years she was there) and is the only one in her school intake of 72.

GladioliBuckets · 12/06/2010 21:26

Yep, 2 in DD's year (Y2).

CantSupinate · 12/06/2010 20:08

Quite popular here (North Norfolk).

autodidact · 12/06/2010 15:36

Don't know any (am in London). I like Meg better.

There are three in the small street I live in, but they are 14, 11 and 8 so not babies.

ohnelly · 12/06/2010 14:30

It is becoming more popular - I was considering it but had a boy so we called the dog Megan instead though she is now usually called Meg

TheNextMrsDepp · 12/06/2010 00:14

Surrey - don't know any round here. Love the name - would have been DS1's name, but he wasn't a girl, and SIL had a Megan two months before he was born anyway.

Hedwig3 · 12/06/2010 00:12

I only know 1 aged 10.

Baileysismyfriend · 10/06/2010 15:42

Very popular in the SW, know of three Megans of 10-12 and two babies.

driedapricots · 10/06/2010 15:03

surrey..i know only 1 ..and she's mine! good choice imo ;)

DomesticG0ddess · 10/06/2010 14:58

Hampshire, only know one and she is 7.

MrsJohnDeere · 10/06/2010 14:04

Don't know any (Herts).

Hulababy · 10/06/2010 13:57

I know 2 - one 8y and one 2y. Don't think there are any on the infant school I work at though (about 135 girls.)

EffieB · 10/06/2010 13:46

So popular (ish) but not too much it seems- I can handle that level I think! My friend chose a name that she thought (clearly she should have checked on Mumsnet first) would be nigh on unique only to find that it is one of the most common ones at min, she is still a bit devasted about this three years on so trying to check in advance for us!

Very popular here, but then I'm in Wales so it has been for a long time.

LynetteScavo · 10/06/2010 13:13

It was popular about 10 years ago, but most of the Megans are about.....10 by now.

ShadeofViolet · 10/06/2010 13:11

I dont know any here in the Midlands, its a lovely name though

muminthemiddle · 10/06/2010 13:06

Quite popular but a very good choice imo!

swanandduck · 10/06/2010 13:04

Quite popular in Ireland, but hasn't reached saturation point. Lovely name and I really like Meg as a nn.

ABitBatty · 10/06/2010 09:21

Isn't it a bit 90's? I know lots of Megans, aged 10-12 but none under the age of 8.

thirtysomething · 10/06/2010 09:17

I know two (Midlands) - one is always known as Meg or Meggie. It's actually not that popular round here compared to Charlotte/Ella/Ellie/Olivia/Jessica sort of names, but it's a beuatiful name! Go for it!

lamplighter · 10/06/2010 09:01

My god daughter is Megan, there are three others in her year, my colleague has a Meghan and where I used to work two of my colleagues had a Megan each.

I am in East Anglia so there seems to be a whole bunch of them.

Tillyscoutsmum · 10/06/2010 08:46

I don't actually know any where we live (Midlands/Shropshire border) but I do know of 4 non local friends who have young dd's called Megan (3 of them are Welsh). I think its a pretty name and like the nn Meg
