Another list of names!

Hello- I have a surname beginning with A and i'm not sure if names ending in A would go. This is my list so far and I would be really grateful if you could give me your opinions. We do not yet know the sex.

Boys:

Charles
Montgomery (Monty)
Ranulph
James
John
Giles

Girls:

Neela
Bridget
India
Caroline
Juliet

I love Juliet and Caroline or Bridget would be nice middle names I think. But Neela and India are nms.

Boys names. UM>.. Charles is ok, I like Charlie more. Monty is ok, but too trendy. Ranulph I like. But I prefer Raphael. Or Raph. James is OK, prefer Jamie.
Johnnie is quite cool I guess...

Giles, well, it wouldn't suit a child of mine. I like Guy though.

I'm going to say John is the best name on your list! wow. Johnnie is so adorable on a baby I think.

thank you- TBH I've put down names my DH likes and I'm not sure of and vice versa as well as those we both like. Ooh, I forgot Rupert- what do you think of that?

MagalyZz- what does nms stand for? Nicknames?
When you say Monty is too trendy do you mean lots of boys are called that? I don't know many children other than family and very close friends at the moment and all their names are names that were also common when I grew up like Edward and Ben.

Donald

These are all quirky classics ... they sound like they might be rising in popularity to my ear but in a less obvious way,n ot as fast as Monty? Monty sounds 'obviously trendy' and yes I know of a couple under four.

For girls I love Rosemary which sounds like a sister of a Juliet..

Bridget - like a bit less (I seem to be drawn to girls' names ending in an 'a' for some reason!)
India - I really like this one

Juliet - like a bit less for some reason (probably the 'a' thing again...)

For the boys I only like John. (but I'm biased as it's DS1's name - he's the only under 30 we know with the name - I love that it's supertraditional yet uncommon)

For the girls I love Caroline and Juliet.

Charles - OK but too many Charlies around if you intend to shorten it
Montgomery (Monty)- I like Monty!
Ranulph
James- not for me
John - my favourite of your boys names
Giles - bit posh sounding

Girls:

Neela - not for me Bridget - actually quite like this in a retro sort of way India - would not use myself personally but OK Caroline - again quite retro but good Juliet - nice but would hate the shortening of Jules...

Thank you very much- its great to get a cross section of opinion. Lidofabiro, the suggestions are great and you've just reminded me of a name of a little girl I knew a few years ago that I really like- Coralie!

From your list I will float several past my DH

Ooh if your surname begins with A you don't want to pick a first name that ends with an A (like India) or it will sound really odd. Take it from a girl who used to cause major problems for stutterers.

Yes, that has been a concern! There are soo many girls names ending in A. The stutter thing is a very good point. I was thinking that some names ending in A work better with an A starting surname than others and I did wonder that if Laura Ashley did ok....
