Sibling names for Maeve?

32 replies

mummyosar · 05/06/2010 18:14

I have a 2.5 year old daughter named Maeve and a baby due in November.

We cannot agree on ANY sibling names.

Middle name will be either Janet or Richard (family names)

Any suggestions really appreciated!

Edel. Makes a lovely combination.

Maeve is lovely. I think it would sound nice with:
Ishbel;
Elizabeth (then you could shorten it to Beth for nn but wouldn't have the initial thing);
Beatrice;
Alice;
Helena.

Boys' names that sound nice with it imho:
Benedict
Bartholomew
Barnaby

I like some of the names NanKid suggested especially Nina, Ellen and Iris
I know it is breaking the "no starting with s" rule, but I think Siobhan is nice, and it doesn't actually make an "S" sound at the start - however i know 2 names with a v sound in might sound odd together, and others might think that both names together was trying too hard, but oh well...

I suppose Eve, Eva and Niamh are too close to Maeve?

Iris
Ada or Ida
Elsie
Esme
Edie/Edith
Audrey
Cora
Clara
Sadie
Stella
Ellen
Flora
Nell
Lois
Pearl
T helma
Esther
Nina
Beatrice/Beatrix
Agatha
Tabitha

NanKid - I like Gaelic names (irish ancestry was why I went for Maeve) but its not a show stopper.

Ideally i want a name like Maeve - that is a real name (not entirely newly made up) but not REALLY common. Doesn't start or end with S (surname does). and is good for child or adult - not too marked our in age or in social class.

I like old names:
Ivy (DH hates it)
Beth (with Janet initials becomes BJ sadler - not ideal!!)
Amelia (quite popular I think)
Grace (very popular)

Don't know the sex so boys names too!

The only Maeve I know has a brother called Stanley.

Do you want another Gaelic name?
