What do you think of Edmund as a boy's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

I have an uncle Edmund and my great-grandfather's name was Edmund too, even though he was always called Ned! It's a great family name for us so Blackadder never occurs. I'm pleased to hear you are considering using it - I think it's a great name.

vintage · 02/06/2010 19:48

Blackadder here too you could get a dashound sp?and call it Colin

pitterpatterfeet · 02/06/2010 19:37

Definitely Blackadder. "Whoops I trod on an Edmund!"

pointydog · 02/06/2010 19:09

wet

janeite · 02/06/2010 19:00

Yes, the Mansfield Park Edmund is a bit wet - still a cool name though. And Bernard for a girl is truly inspired.

TheFallenMadonna · 02/06/2010 10:16

Love it.

Hedwig3 · 02/06/2010 10:13

Sounds very clumsy to my ears.

AvengingGerbil · 02/06/2010 09:16

Edmund in Lion Witch Wardrobe is GREAT. He's the only character who develops. Starts out horrid, learns from his mistakes and ends up both nicer and more human. I had a total crush on him in my (distant) youth.

Edmund in Mansfield Park, on the other hand, is a prig.

Ronaldinhio · 02/06/2010 09:13

blackadder...maybe another dc called baldrick?

SummerLightning · 02/06/2010 09:12

I remember going in for Emergency C-section and in the carnage doctor asked me what his name was going to be, when I told her she wrinkled up her nose and said "What about Blackadder?"! Charming!

5DollarShake · 02/06/2010 09:07

I thought Blackadder before I thought Hillary, and I'm a Kiwi.

It's a nice name but it does have an overriding Blackadder connection for me. That's not necessarily a bad thing though - Blackadder will not be widely known by our DCs' generation and if and when an Edmund does stumble across it, they might actually quite like it.

SummerLightning · 02/06/2010 09:04

I have an Edmund. We love it, and quite like the Blackadder connotations. (Next one will be Baldrick if it's a boy, Bernard for a girl)

Although we love it I think lots of people aren't keen (including my mum). And the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe Edmund is not a good association. There is an Edmund in Mansfield Park as well. I think he is OK (can't remember to be honest!)!

usualsuspect · 02/06/2010 09:03

Not nice

LuluF · 02/06/2010 09:02

I rather like it - as I also rather like Esmond.

notanumber · 01/06/2010 23:58

For me, it has bad literary associations.

The Edmunds in both King Lear and The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe are fairly horrid.

And, yes, also Blackadder.

mrslurkalot · 01/06/2010 23:06

Blackadder - but I LOVE Blackadder!

NomDePlume · 01/06/2010 22:56

Edmund is a no for me. A little too austere.

lidofabiro · 01/06/2010 22:48

Very nice. Also like Edwin.

changer22 · 01/06/2010 22:44

Not so keen. Prefer Edward and Edgar. The only Edmund I've known insisted on being called Ed.

hellymelly · 01/06/2010 22:40

I love love love it,I have always liked it for some reason ,I've never known an Edmund,I just think there's something beautiful about it.

patchj76 · 01/06/2010 22:40

Is Blackadder a bad association? He was quite a clever chap?

If you like Edmund for a boy, how about Elinor for a girl? Both Jane Austen names!

scurryfunge · 01/06/2010 22:39

My DS' middle name...love it

Wonderstuff · 01/06/2010 22:38

I like it - I thought Edmund Hilary when I saw that - dh said Blackadder though

piscesmoon · 01/06/2010 22:37

I like it-unfortunately it is bound to be shortened.
