Hi all, am 6 months PG and struggling with boys' names. DS is Samuel and we don't want anything too far out. Anyone have any thoughts about Rory?

I'm sorry - I don't really like it. It doesn't really trip off the tongue - I', a Londoner so that might be why

what about

Evan
Patrick
Jake
Alexander

I think it depends on where you are, I wanted it until I heard my in-laws pronunciation and went right off it. The further north or softer the accent the nicer it sounds, in an Eastenders kind of accent it sounds like the Tasmanian devil.

i love it

in fact i have one of that name

ByTheSea · 28/05/2010 14:39

I think it's a lovely name.

rachel234 · 28/05/2010 14:37

I don't like it, I'm afraid. I also find the two 'r's tricky to say...

UnrequitedSkink · 28/05/2010 14:22

I think it's a gorgeous name, DH hates it but I think that's because he knows someone he doesn't like called that. But I would love to use it otherwise.

Fimbo · 28/05/2010 14:22

I find it difficult to say tbh (I am Scottish!!). It's the 2 r's.

Blair is nice

wilkos · 28/05/2010 14:04

yes! my dss (12) is sam and I thought rory went very well

but we both liked tom so thats what ds (12 week) ended up being

it means 'red king'. and if ds had been red haired he would have been rory regardless of dh!

diddl · 28/05/2010 13:54

I like it-but prefer Ruairi spelling tbh.

SambuccaKelly · 28/05/2010 13:52

Personally, I am not a fan. I think it's because my background is Irish, and Rory is an anglicisation of the Gaelic name Ruairi or Ruairidh said just the same as Rory). I prefer the Gaelic name, but that's just my preference.

Samuel is a lovely name, btw.

weegiemum · 28/05/2010 13:52

I like it. I prefer it spelled Ruraidh but that depends a lot on where you live - we're in Scotland so a gaelic spelling is OK.

squeaver · 28/05/2010 13:52

Yes would have probably been dd's name.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 28/05/2010 13:51

Yes! It's DS2's name. And now I will hide this thread as everyone goes 'Oh, it's hideous/vile/reminds me of porridge'. Or something.
