Hi all, am 6 months PG and struggling with boys' names. DS is Samuel and we don't want anything too far out. Anyone have any thoughts about Rory?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I love the name Rory. Was on our list for all three children. I'm Irish with a not so difficult to spell name so all for the simplest spellings!!

mathanxiety · 29/05/2010 18:01

Love it no matter how it's spelled. And I think it goes well with Samuel (or Sam).

Hedwig3 · 29/05/2010 16:26

Rory is a great name.

orienteerer · 29/05/2010 12:11

Yes, nice name.

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 29/05/2010 12:00

I like it, but prefer the Gaelic spelling os Ruaridh. I find Rory quite a hard name to pronounce, and am nothing like Jonathan Woss.

TheNextMrsDepp · 29/05/2010 11:57

I really like it (it was on our list too), even though the only Rory I know is a little thug.

Ariesgirl · 29/05/2010 11:55

I used to have no strong feelings about the name, but these days I know someone called Rory and he is absolutely the evilest, pettiest, stupidest tosspot I have ever met in my life! Just shows how much you are influenced by people you know I guess.

Er...other than that it's great.

MilkNoSugarPlease · 29/05/2010 08:30

LOVE it!!

Woollymummy · 28/05/2010 23:55

sorry, not since the Archers introduced poor little love child

piprabbit · 28/05/2010 23:53

I used to love it - but now, every time I hear it the phrase 'Roooooaaaarrrry the racing car' echoes through my brain.

Sorry.

honeydragon · 28/05/2010 23:53

I love it....
..........now

Dh insisted this was to be ds's name throughout and I rebelled throught he whole pregnancy gave birth, dh came to hospital said what do we call him then?

I decided he looked "like a fucking Rory" ,.

I now love the name am so glad that dh came up with it and ds is very proud of his name and tell people it means "red king" and "brave".

disclaimer - I hav esince also let dh name our daughter and that turned out ok too

Charlieknows · 28/05/2010 23:45

I love it! We've called our son the Scottish Gaelic version Ruairidh pronounced Roo-ah-ray. A lovely name either way...

Poohbearsmom · 28/05/2010 21:51

I think its lovely and im irish born and raised and know 2 Rory's both spelt that way and both fab fellas congrats btw

poguemahone · 28/05/2010 21:49

Love it. Prefer the Gaelic spelling, tbh.

Pingpong · 28/05/2010 21:10

I like it - prefer Ruaridh but like Rory too. Can't see that it is difficult to say unless you are like Jonafan Woss

sapell3 · 28/05/2010 20:36

Not keen I'm afraid.

jellybeans · 28/05/2010 17:49

like it

zozzle · 28/05/2010 17:06

Not overly keen sorry

5DollarShake · 28/05/2010 17:04

I really like it, and think if you're not in Scotland or Ireland you can most definitely get away with the Anglicised spelling. Dare I say it, you'd actually be better off with it.

liliputlady · 28/05/2010 17:02

I think it hard to say, but it's a really cool name - I love it. Cute on a little boy but a good man's name too.

glasgowlass · 28/05/2010 16:35

I love it!

My wee cat is called Rory, only because we were really struggling TTC and it was one of our chosen names but never thought we would end up using it.....eventually had DS 3 years after getting the cat! DS is Sam btw!

CalaLilly · 28/05/2010 16:29

I love it- it's our first choice of names for a boy

I love the Gaelic spelling but wouldn't use them. We are Scots living south of the border and know that our son would have to spell it out and repeat it constantly. I think Rory is still gorgeous though, even with the straightforward spelling.

comtessa · 28/05/2010 15:56

IT'S GREAT. And I know an amazing human rights lawyer by the name of Rory, so there's a good precedent for you.

lynniep · 28/05/2010 15:13

Yes I love Rory and it was high on my name list. However, DH hates it. DS2 is Noah, which he suits, but I still look at him and think he would have suited Rory better.

alarkaspree · 28/05/2010 15:06

I love it. But does the fact you're asking us about it mean you're not that sure? In which case how about Toby?
