I love the name Rowan - is DD's name! Did get asked to repeat it alot when she was a baby but only get compliments on it now. Don't care as I think it really suits her and like how it's slightly different.

LarkinSky · 28/05/2010 14:56

I love Rowan, but only know men/boys named it (not many- I still count it as a fairly unusual name)

Saying that, just remembered Rowan Pelling - a very stylish intelligent female editor. I think it would work for a woman too.

Claudia always makes me think of pampered cats. Not sure why.

secunda · 27/05/2010 17:21

I really like both of them

Jamieandhismagictorch · 27/05/2010 17:18

I love Claudia

mopsyflopsy · 27/05/2010 12:29

I don't like Claudia, especially if pronounced Claw-dia (I prefer the German Clowd-ia, with a long ow sound). Even if you don't mind the meaning, your dd may.

Rowan is a good unisex name, although I know more boys.

thislittlesisterlola · 27/05/2010 12:26

I like both but Claudia is my favourite.

Hedwig3 · 27/05/2010 11:24

I like Claudia but the only Rowans I know are boys.

LiquoriceLila · 26/05/2010 21:16

Much prefer Claudia

mathanxiety · 26/05/2010 19:46

I much prefer Rowan. Claudia sounds harsh to my ear.

Thediaryofanobody · 26/05/2010 15:38

Both names are lovely, but prefer Rowan for a boy, so I would go with Claudia.

NiceCuppaT · 26/05/2010 13:31

Claudia Rowan surname maybe?

Psammead · 25/05/2010 16:09

DD has the mn Rowan - I love it. Have had plenty of funny looks though.

Definitely go for it, if you are fairly thick skinned.

5DollarShake · 25/05/2010 13:49

I really like both names.

MrsJohnDeere · 25/05/2010 13:14

The Rowans I know are boys.

I prefer Robyn/Robin myself.

Love Claudia. Bit biased because I know an adorable little Claudia (4yo ds1's current 'girlfriend' ).

letthereberock PMSL!!!

ZZZenAgain · 25/05/2010 13:06

I don't like either name really

sorry

rubyslippers · 25/05/2010 13:05

i love the name Claudia

i think it is a great name for a baby and a woman

DD was so nearly Claudia ...

Rubena · 25/05/2010 13:04

Claudia was on my shortlist - didn't go off it due to the meaning as I don't think many people even know the meaning of their names! I just knocked it down my list as some of my family didn't care for it which I know is the wrong reason. I still love it so it may still be used. I like it much better than Rowan by the way too.
Claudia is classy without sounding snobby at all. Very pretty name.

swanandduck · 25/05/2010 12:47

Claudia is lovely, Rowan a bit makey uppy.

evamummy · 25/05/2010 11:28

I'm not keen on Claudia, I'm afraid. Rowan is nice great for boys.

OrmRenewed · 25/05/2010 11:14

I like Rowan but not Claudia. We used to have a little boat called Rowan and they are one of my favourite trees.

Takver · 25/05/2010 11:13

Claudie is pretty though. Actually, Claudia pronounced in English is pretty too (I only know a German one, so always think of it pronounced that way).

diddl · 25/05/2010 08:50

Yes-when we chose names, nns never occurred to us!

We don´t shorten our childrens names-we chose names that we like as they are & use them!

curlygurly · 25/05/2010 08:25

You're right LetThereBeRock
there does seem to be an obsession with shortening names...I don't have one, I'm just called my name!

Re Claudia I don't think the meaning of Claudia is a big issue.

The meaning of a name would have little impact on my decision, unless it meant 'Satan's hell spawn'.Perhaps then I might think twice about using it.
