when my son was born we were fixed on the name george.
a few days after he was born we fell out with one of our friends who was pregnant who wanted to use the name (after her dead grandparent)

well we went with charlie to keep the peace although we really didnt feel as fond of the name.

now we both really regret it. turns out my friend had a girl so we could use the name easy.

is it wrong to do this so late? should we just make do with what we decided?

I'd change it. I regret not giving my DS a different name. His is perfectly nice, but I think the other would have suited him better

i dont. hes almost nameless. its really really odd.
george fits more then anything else and it took weeks for us to change to charlie..

Change it. You can change within 12 months of registering the birth. Contact the registrar. I have a George. Great name!

Lora69 · 19/05/2010 16:50

when you look at him, which name do you see?

CharlottesClan · 19/05/2010 16:38

his middle name is william, dh hates this so not an option.

we both agree that when we call him, or mention his name to others, for a second we both cant remember what we called him
that sounds awful.

oh and hes our third so wont be having anymore

What is DS' middle name?

Poohbearsmom · 19/05/2010 16:24

But surely at 10months he is Charlie? Id keep it for your next baby! But id never have had an argument it the first place with a friend jus cause she loved the same name id jus have "let" her have it too... But iv cousins with the same name as my brothers and my sister tis not really an issue in our family everyone is different though... Charlie and George are both great names btw

LouMacca · 19/05/2010 16:17

Can't believe your friend fell out over it when she hadn't even had her baby! I would change it too if George is the name that you love (I love it too btw!)

nappyaddict · 19/05/2010 16:06

I would change it.

DaisymooSteiner · 19/05/2010 16:02

No, you don't need to do it by deed poll within the first year, they just amend the birth register iirc.

CharlottesClan · 19/05/2010 16:00

you can be deed poll i believe

CharlottesClan · 19/05/2010 15:05

yes normally i would have just used it, but i was tired and weepy and i just wanted to end the arguments

Change it.
Why don't you use Charlie as a middle name.

Frankly I would never have given up a name just becuase a friend fell out with you over it
