OK, so in your opinion NOT over-rated, since their popularity is justified.

Tidey I know people will have different opinions, hence 'in your opinion' in the thread title.

HTH.

As I said before, I happily concur it is a completely pointless thread.

I won't be in the least offended if you choose to leave and/or hide it.

What's wrong with Archie? mine is a cutie and it suits him.

bellabelly · 18/05/2010 12:30

I think Debbie is v under-rated

EricNorthmansmistress · 18/05/2010 12:26

I read overrated as a name that is really popular but done to death now and not as 'unusual' or pretty as it thinks it is.

Tidey · 18/05/2010 12:25

Agree with BalloonSlayer, what makes a name over-rated? Everyone has different opinions on names, there is no one name that everyone without exception raves over. Silly thread, really.

EricNorthmansmistress · 18/05/2010 12:24

Anything-May/Mae
Archie/Alfie/Albie
Daisy/Maisie/Poppy
Anything-Hyphenated
Anything food related
Absolutely anything 'old lady chic'

Oh and bloody Talullah!

(IMO)

BalloonSlayer · 18/05/2010 12:23

I don't know what you mean by over-rated.

Do you mean:

  • people think it's classy but it ain't?
  • people think it's unusual but it ain't?
  • people think it's quirky but it ain't?
  • people think it's a name that will automatically make their child cool, clever, sexy and succesful in later life and that bestowing that name is all they as the parent have to do to for this to happen, whereas their first teacher will immediately privately label them with a big A for ASBO?
swanandduck · 18/05/2010 12:18

Also, don't see why people are criticising this thread when the one on names people don't like got no criticism.

swanandduck · 18/05/2010 12:15

Ellen. Very plain, ordinary name in my opinion. But then again, one of my favourite names is Jane!

Pasiphae · 18/05/2010 11:36

Ava, Isabelle/a, Isla.
Joshua, Lucas.

What I don´t get is the new trend for old people names.
Stanley, Arthur, Ada, Hilda...

Revolting, revolting, revolting.

Not cool but cruel.

Lora69 · 17/05/2010 22:20

LiquoriceLila · 17/05/2010 20:20

Psammead · 17/05/2010 20:14

Personally I'm not over-keen on some of the old-lady/gentleman chic names.

elliemental · 17/05/2010 20:09

aliciarrrr (or aleesha)
Oliviarrrr
Ameliarrr

disclaimer: I like these names, they are perfectly nice pretty names but they are everywhere!

ConDemNation · 17/05/2010 20:08

Isabella.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 17/05/2010 20:01

DD wants to name any future sister she may have, and is adamant that she wants her to be called Gracie. I've never heard that name before DD mentioned it, so I'm sure I'll suddenly stumble on lots of Gracie's.

LuluF · 17/05/2010 19:52

I'm not really offended.

I didn't pick the names I gave to my children because I wanted everyone to like what they were called - if I did, I'd've let my DH pick the really safe names he has a preference for (apart from 'Yvonne', but we'll gloss over that).

WhatsAllThisThen · 17/05/2010 19:47

Was he something to do with the Fall of Troy?

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 17/05/2010 19:46
