.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
noddyholder · 18/05/2010 14:15

Alfie and anything with rose after the hyphen

MrsRhettButler · 18/05/2010 14:10

hmmmm, i still think that it doesn't matter who else likes the name you choose because in life we are all going to meet people who do and people who don't like our names.

op shouldn't have to reveal her dc names, she wasn't asking anyone else to do that.

and actually op wasn't asking to slag off names just which we thought were overrated in our opinions...

is your dd called Amelie-Melly?

jellybeans · 18/05/2010 14:07

Olivia
James
Maddison
Henry

Aitch · 18/05/2010 14:03

nonsense. what matters is that you like it AND that others like it, as evidenced by the fact that Baby Names is one of the most popular boards on here.

if you were slagging off your own names, fine. but you're not, it's people's kids you're talking about. i don't understand the impulse myself, i think it's a bit nasty.

and no further comment from the OP, i note, certainly no mention of her own children's names so we can all snort at them.

weegiemum · 18/05/2010 13:59

I know Gabriel is the angel.

Remember Angels do not have Gender. Therefore Gabriel is not a male or female name.

But in my perception, its a girls name,

The thread does as what it ovverated. Gabriel is my vote for that!

MrsRhettButler · 18/05/2010 13:57

i don't think its such a big deal though, you don't choose a name so that everyone else likes it, what matters is YOU like it.

you're never going to find a name that everyone loves and thats ok

kitstwins · 18/05/2010 13:57

Weegiemum the Angel Gabriel - the orginal source of the name - was male. Ergo the casting of blonde little girls in nativity plays is way off the mark. Gabrielle/Gabriella is the feminine version of the masculine Gabriel.

Aitch · 18/05/2010 13:54

bullshit, though. you know for a fact that people on here have children with these names, you see them discussed often enough. ignorance is no defence.

BoldChislersMummy · 18/05/2010 13:47

I wish people wouldn't say their children's names, as then it gets personal. If somebody doesn't know, then it's objective. AS soon as you know you're insulting somebody's child you have to think, hmmm, tell the truth (like OP wants) or risk looking like a bitch!?

BoldChislersMummy · 18/05/2010 13:44

I love Nancy but don't know any, so nobody I know is rating it enough.

I know a name has to be at the top, but jack has been at the top for an awfully long time now, and I'm surprised that people are still choosing it. It's not awful, in fact it'd be nice if there were fewer of them. So the answer is Jack.

MrsRhettButler · 18/05/2010 13:43

wait! she actually said.. ''Amelie-Mello'' .... just like that? the whole thing? some people

Aitch · 18/05/2010 13:43

i really don't like these threads. why say all this stuff on here when you know that people have kids with these names? great that some people aren't bothered, but some people don't like the idea that they've inadvertently given their child a name that others are sniggering at, funnily enough.

MrsRhettButler · 18/05/2010 13:41

mind you i always feel very safe on these threads as i have never even once seen my dd's name on mn!

EricNorthmansmistress · 18/05/2010 13:41

foreverastudent - snap!

MrsRhettButler - God yes! I can't bear it. Prtentious IMO. I even heard a women call her daughter Amelie-Mello at the softplay - as in the nickname Amelie in the film is called once. But she said it like it was her whole name

MrsRhettButler · 18/05/2010 13:37

i like this thread op its made me laugh!

my offering is amelie whats all the fuss about?? its emily with an a!!

Aitch · 18/05/2010 13:36

i'm always interested to know the names of the children of the OP on these sorts of threads.

foreverastudent · 18/05/2010 13:35

Olivia
Jack
Alfie
Eleanor (and its varients)
Lewis
Archie
Isla
Oscar
Finlay
Lily
names with -mae at the end
Grace

names given by parents trying to be original without realising they are very popular at the moment

swanandduck · 18/05/2010 13:34

Well, the original Angel Gabriel was a male.

weegiemum · 18/05/2010 13:32

Gabriel.

Its a blonde girl in a white dress in the Reception nativity play.

Not a boy!

cyteen · 18/05/2010 13:30

Names I don't get the appeal of include Penelope, Beatrice, Archie, Mabel, Teddy, Tilly/Milly, Clementine. But it's not for me to label them over-rated or not, I just wouldn't choose them for my own.

Jamiki · 18/05/2010 13:22

I have a Jack whose name was chosen for DHs deceased father nearly 10 years ago. I love it and don't care too much who thinks what about it.

I'm about to have (maybe) a Ruby too!

Too popular, over rated..

Too bad so sad.

fiveweeksandcounting · 18/05/2010 13:11

Zak, Zack, Zac

Horrible harsh name and I know at least 20 under the age of 3. There are 4 in my DD's class

WhatsAllThisThen · 18/05/2010 13:05

My name has been mentioned and I don't care either!

My DC's name is generally called chavvy in these parts too. Really doesn't bother me. If it did, I wouldn't open these threads.

OP posts:
ConDemNation · 18/05/2010 13:05

I'm sorry, when I 9hesitantly) posted I was in a confused state and have now realised that I don't mean overrated at all. Isabella is a lovely, gorgeous name. What I mean, is overused, as in there are millions upon millions just in ds's class, let alone the school.

There comes a time when it reaches saturation point. Which is a shame for all those who still want to use it.

I think people ought to use names they love, however popular they already are. But if I hear a name too often I start to get bored with it and want to choose something else, because otherwise it feels like everyone's child has the same name.

Meglet · 18/05/2010 13:03

Yay! One of my dc's names has been mentioned. And. I. Don't. Care.
