What do you think? it started as a joke but now is a serious possibility...too old fashioned?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
cumbria81 · 16/05/2010 08:34

Ridiculous. Don;t do it!

NigellaTufnel · 16/05/2010 00:08

I love it. And was my 1st choice for DS2 but DH didn't like it.

Hector and LYsander - the great heros

LetThemEatCake · 15/05/2010 23:54

I absolutely hate it, sorry. I know one and was when I got the text birth announcement - honestly thought it was a joke, esp as the older sibling has a lovely name.

It hasn't grown on me since.

NoahAndTheWhale · 15/05/2010 23:29

There's a Hector at DS and DD's school. The name has slightly grown on me.

treas · 15/05/2010 23:28

Didn't Hector live with Zaza the Cat next door to Kiki the frog?

TooManyChislers · 15/05/2010 23:23

Very trendy.

I prefer Victor which is not quite officially trendy yet.

weehector · 15/05/2010 23:22

I approve..natch as it's my nickname...weehector is my DH's pet name for me (originated from Hector's House).

My (boy) bump is also being referred to as Hector at the moment...I love it but we've decided to call him Alastair when he's born.

Skateboarding architect sounds about right too - I'm a snowboarding advertising type..

readerholic · 15/05/2010 22:51

i agree with no aimé for a boy - although it sounds nice the french way - emay, also like Emi for a boy - I know a super cute one, but DP doesn't like it.

friends have an elliott which is putting us off.

Quentin - not appealing to me at all and we both know and dislike a Gabriel...

all so hard! I had a lovely girls name too.

Appreciate all the comments though, and with a few exceptions I don't think i would be committing child cruelty if we went for our joke name. Which is good as after 7 months of calling the bump Hector, is proving hard to choose anything else!

Saw a post on here about worst names - and someone had suggested Portley for a boy - I spat out my drink at that one! So could be a LOT worse!

My ds is a gorgeous little Hector and it is unusual, but not difficult to spell or say, which is a plus. There is no obvious abbreviation mind you. Sounds lovely pronounced the French way. And Hector's House is donkey's years old, so only over 40s remember it. I think it's a super name (obviously). having said that, what about Gabriel?

mayanna123 · 15/05/2010 20:41

Have you considered Quentin - quite popular in France but less so in the UK.

I also like Elliot of your choices.

Hedwig3 · 15/05/2010 18:28

Fab name. I love it!

SalFresco · 15/05/2010 17:16

I used to work with a Hector...he was absolutely gorgeous...everyone had a HUGE crush on him - so I have very positive associations with it!

janeite · 15/05/2010 17:13

Hector is much nicer than the other ones you've listed imho.

LynetteScavo · 15/05/2010 17:07

No, no to aime for a boy!

Elliott is a bit over done now..I think you should stick with Hector.

LetThereBeRock · 15/05/2010 17:06

It's horrid.

hocuspontas · 15/05/2010 17:04

God no. Hector means bully. Or used to when I was at school. Don't do it.

LuluF · 15/05/2010 17:03

It's my ring tone. And I'm slowly giving my children slightly Moz related names (and DH hasn't really cottoned on!).

readerholic · 15/05/2010 17:02

We also like teo, Morgan, elliott, and. Dp likes aime- with an accent- apparantly is both for boys and girls in France.
Difficulty is finding an unusual boys name.. I have a v unusual name and I have always liked that no one shares my name. Want the same for baby when he comes...
Don't understand the gang or hectors house?? Must be missing something- is it recent?

OP posts:
janeite · 15/05/2010 16:52

Yes to the First Of The gang - great song!

sapell3 · 15/05/2010 16:51

I don't like it I'm afraid.

LynetteScavo · 15/05/2010 16:49

You've reminded me I knew another Hector....his parents were English but they lived in Paris. His younger brother was called Pierre, so I guess it works in French.

oopsandbabycoconut · 15/05/2010 16:42

I love Hector- if DD2 had been a DS she would have been Hector actually until she is born bump is still called Hector as it is the only chance I will ever get of naming anyone Hector.

LuluF · 15/05/2010 16:38

The First of the Gang...

I love it - DH doesn't

CuppaTeaJanice · 15/05/2010 16:31

You could spell it Hekktah - just to make it a bit funkier!!!!!

harley85 · 15/05/2010 16:28

i was thinking Hectors house too
