I know of one.

I prefer Leo myself.

i quite like it. I think I would expect an adult Leon to be black. I'm not sure why I think that though..

Makes me think of Kings of Leon - not a bad association mind you.

Also reminds me of a boy at my school who became a hairdresser. He was taught at college how to camp it up in order to for female clientele to feel more at ease.

Fel1x · 15/05/2010 16:44

I know one Leon who is 30 odd but no little Leons.
DH wanted Leo for DS2, which I liked but do think is a bit chav (and have come across a fair few since who are v chavvy so am pleased we didnt go for it! )
Leon much nicer than Leo imo
I actually really like all the popular names in Germany!

spiderlight · 15/05/2010 16:41

One - a sweet, lovely little chap. His parents are German and it's short for Leonidas.

ruddynorah · 15/05/2010 16:41

one. mine! he's 6 months old now. you may have seen him at 3 weeks old in our mn video diary testing the ford s max

LetThemEatCake · 15/05/2010 16:39

LOL mama2moo our Leon was conceived in the festive season and the Noel thing occurred to me too!

Reminds me of both that great movie with the hitman and the rubber plant, and the Georgette Heyer book "These Old Shades".

Both times the name was held by a very resourceful child!

mama2moo · 15/05/2010 15:21

My friends ds is called Leon - He was born over Christmas and its Noel backwards!

It really suits a baby IYSWIM.

mayanna123 · 15/05/2010 15:00

Magnus is a lovely name!

persephoneplum · 15/05/2010 14:56

I know of one 3 month old called Leon. Other than that it reminds me of a high school crush I once had on a fabulously talented boy called Leon.

LetThemEatCake · 15/05/2010 14:27

well, they are both strong and kind of noble, I think??

That's so funny LTEC, one of the Leons that I know has a sibling named Magnus. Perhaps they are of a type, so if you like one name you automatically like the other.

LetThemEatCake · 15/05/2010 14:13

well, thank you all. Nearly 8 months on and I am still very happy with the choice, even more so (foolishly, I know) as it appears not to be a common choice (except in Deutschland!!) I think it is lovely and regal, partic with his middle name (Magnus)

He is the only one of my 3 with whom I didn't find out the sex, so the other 2 were named early on and I never questioned the choices, whereas naming a baby once I'd seen him seemed weightier, somehow - I doubted myself a lot more!

Two.

nighbynight · 15/05/2010 13:55

lol mayanna, I was about to post that I know hundreds of Leons...we are in Germany.

I think preferences must be a bit regional though - we are in bayern, and I dont know a single Paul or Jonas or Tim. All the others are very popular though!

I know two children called Leon, and several adults. It's a lovely name.

  9. Tim/Timm (4)
10. Ben (14)
Lovethesea · 15/05/2010 11:49

I think of the film but it's not a bad connection in my head - not my style of name so wouldn't consider it but don't dislike it exactly either.

Nolda · 15/05/2010 11:39

I know one of about 3 years of age. It makes me think of the film.

jellybeans · 15/05/2010 11:34

I like it, know one child of about 8 and one man in his 30s. Great name.

BendyBob · 15/05/2010 11:19

I don't know any but also think of the film.

Actually I really liked the film; Jean Reno has the most divine voice/accent, so that's what comes to mind for me

elliemental · 15/05/2010 11:17

LTEC, it was a phrase coined by someone else on here a while back...i don't even mean ch*v, (which is a word i don't like). it's more the kind of mother with a tiny vest top barely covering her spammy upper torso who screeches and makes leon have around 5 syllables.
FWIW, the name we chose for ds1 has appeared on here recently described as Chavvy, so...

elliemental · 15/05/2010 11:14

I adore the film too, that's why I wanted it for ds! That actor is so jolie laide (not sure if I have spelt that correctly) but it means gorgeous, though really not classically good-looking IYKWIM.
When we talked about leon for our bump, some people thought we were glorifying Trotsky!

LetThemEatCake · 15/05/2010 11:13

by "bellowed down bacon aisle in Morrisons" I am assuming the implication is "ch*v", no?

I think all of my dc names could be accused of that, actually.
