Undecided on this - it will always remind me of the Kinks, but we both like it and think it goes well with our DD's name, Poppy; fun, not too pretentious but not too traditional either. What do you think?

Fab name. Go for it!

MerryMarigold · 27/07/2012 16:21

I was talking to my dh the other day about how much I like the name 'Zola'. Now THAT is cool.

shimmy0 · 27/07/2012 08:11

In actual fact I love the Kinks' song Lola, but I wouldn't name my child it. Actually you have made me want to listen to it this morning :-)

GhouliaYelps · 27/07/2012 08:07

Truly dreadful connotations - trans, prostitute, object of desire for paedophile in most iconic literary character of 20 th century. There are so many lovely names out there why would you do this...

Rachog · 27/07/2012 08:00

I like it, I think its pretty but not acname I would use. I think of eastenders rather than the songs, though I have heardvthe showgirl one I have no idea what the transvesite link is? I am 26..

A colleagues son called his little one lula. Maybe its a shortened version of tallulah, I've not heard of it before.

Ephiny · 27/07/2012 07:59

Not keen, I think Leila is much prettier and nicer.

Very 6 years ago.

Yellowchair · 27/07/2012 07:17

It's a nice sounding name but its a no for me it's ruined by both songs .

shimmy0 · 27/07/2012 06:56

Bluesunday - only really old people are going to get the Barry Manilow thing? I'm 34 and one of the first things that popped into my head was the Barry Manilow song about the "showgirl", and the other thing was the song about the transvestite.
Have you ever googled your own first name to see if you can find anything interesting with your name? I have, and no there isn't any embarrassing songs with mine in them (thankfully)!

MerryMarigold · 26/07/2012 22:09

I think Lola's had it. I think of Charlie and... A bit passe, wanna be posh (sorry to be cruel). Just seems a bit too West London for me! I really like Leonie.

Heavensmells · 26/07/2012 22:07

I like it too. It was on our short list for dc3 who ended up being a boy.

rachel234 · 26/07/2012 22:05

Really don't like it at all, sorry.

candyflossisevil · 26/07/2012 21:57

I love it although I do prefer laila/layla as an alternative?

scottishmummy · 26/07/2012 21:51

Jess fact you're at such pains to emphasize how to say rosallia is recognition it will be mispronounced,is it not?

fwiw I'd say ro-sally-ah

babyblabber · 26/07/2012 21:42

I love it. DH said it's s transsexual's name and vetoed. Still hoping I can convince/bully him for no.3 if and when the time comes!

scottishmummy · 26/07/2012 21:28

I love it. I've only ever known one child called Lola and she was the prettiest thing you could imagine. Lola will always be a pretty name now because of her.

Jesslovesericthedogx · 26/07/2012 21:17

For me, too girly and also stipper /hooker connotations, same way 'Jordan' would have.

Also I think everyone knows the song don't they? Regardless of age? I'm only 34 and I started singing it as soon as I read 'Lola'. Am I now classed asa old??

Also I can't imagine calling someone in authority either Poppy or Lola, eg Dr. Poppy, or a teacher with the names. That may be because of my age, there are no real 'poppies' / 'lolas' of that age i don't think, but they are so girly and babyish it's difficult to imagine anyone taking them seriously as a grown woman.

That maybe because I have no imagination though

MamaLazarou · 14/05/2010 09:14

Stripper/transvestite.
